Talking Just Leased Infiniti EX

Hello All -

A few weeks ago I posted saying we were looking at leasing one and we finally did it on Saturday. It was quite an ordeal in getting the one we wanted. The sales guy we were working with turned out to be a huge flake. But we were able to deal directly with the sales manager at Sewell Infiniti of Dallas, and everything turned out fine. I have to give them kuddos for their customer service. We ended up getting a better deal than expected, plus the incentive this month was no sales tax. So, we saved there as well.

Anyway, just a few pics of it in the garage next to the IS. It's a sweet car. My partner is a gadget freak and it has every single one available. The all around camera is very cool and so is the ipod screen display. We originally wanted a white one (until the sales guy failed to tell us it wouldn't be here until April), but the platinum graphite color looks super nice. They threw in the window tint as well.

I've had the IS for 2 years the same day we got this one...so I decided to treat it to a detail wash last week. It looks brand new too! I feel like a little kid with these 2 cars in my garage!

Congrats! I'm pretty impressed (envious) at the around view monitor. Hopefully more cars start adding it.

I noticed you have the dealer emblem on the trunk - are you going to have that removed? Thank goodness they don't do that in California.

Hey Phantom ZX

So glad you asked about the badge. I was so frustrated with them...I specifically told the sales guy when we were ready to buy it that we did not want the dealer badge. When we went to get it on Saturday, it had it!

That was one other thing I was not happy about. They told me that when the plates come in they'll call and when we go there to get them they can remove the emblem. I asked if it would do anything to the paint and they said no. What are your thoughts on this?

Take it off yourself. Hair dryer to warm, and dental floss under it. Voila.

Oh and congrats on the new ride.

The sooner you take the badge off the better. Removing any badge within a year is probably easy, but the sooner you to it the easier it is as it hasn't had a long time to set. When I bought our new Lexus I reamoved the badges the first week (I realize you are just talking about the dealer add on one) and it came of like butter almost.

That EX may be faster than your IS Congrats...how is the legroom in that thing. It looks tinny.

Congrats!

I sat in the EX at the autoshow and I was fairly impressed. It's not the most spacious but it doesn't feel cramped either plus cargo space actually looks decent. Certainly beats the FX imo.

Congragulations. I liked the EX I reviewed much better than the FX series.
Did the dealership go over the break-in procredure with you, or do you already know it? If not, PM me and I'll give you the standard rules.

In my debadging experiences, fishing line works a lot better than dental floss, but I never used a hair dryer or heat gun. Just go in a sawing motion through the adhesive between the paint and emblem and it should come off very easily, espically since it's pretty fresh. Then use some goo gone to completely remove any remaining adhesive, wash the area thoroughly since goo gone can eat paint.

Most people wax after the debadging, but I would say that you shouldn't wax the car until all the paint has been exposed to the sun for a few weeks. I've read a lot of posts about 1st generation G35's having severe paint chipping problems, and some people thought it was because it was waxed too early after the dealer's protective wrap was removed.

The EX is a nice vehicle inside and out, and will outhandle the RX, but the ride is not as smooth. If riding comfort is a priority (which I know it isn't with a lot of you guys), the RX may be a better choice.

Not sure what they are doing these days, but when I was working at a dealership long ago, part of the prep was to wax the car. If the customer paid for that expensive paint protection, we would then just use a sealer. I really don't see why waxing right away would be a problem since the paint has already been baked and fully cured at the factory.
