Default Vintage Mustangs- What do you think....

I'm a "06 GS300 guy, but something wonderful may work out for me. I have a guy (thru a business deal) that will build me a customized, vintage Mustang - ANY YEAR, MODEL, CONFIGURATION!!!! Hoe owns his own Mustang restoration shop- that's all they do, and he says he can get any year/model I choose, except for the super rare styles. Forget about a Boss 429- I know!

My all-time favorite is, of course, the '69 Mach 1 w/ the 390 or big block 428. I'm also considering a '67-or '68 dressed up like the Bullitt movie car, but slammed with a big block engine and brand new modern components. It's like winning the auto lottery.

What would you choose and why? Styling thoughts? Engine considerations? I value the opinions of Lexus drivers, because (we) know and appreciate quality

I have a 69 428 cobra jet myself I love this car its awsome and the sounds it makes are amazing, but if I was going to do it all over again I might go with a 67 or a 68 they are smaller and more nimble the 69 feels like a boat :P

My dad has a 68 GT500KR super rare Mustang. I have a bunch of pics if you wanna see it, anyway, if I even walk near it in the garage he gets weird. I have driven it a couple times, (with him in it!!), and it's pretty nice. His life is complete anyway. LOL!!

I got to ride in a GT350 before......WOW, Loved it. The guy ended up selling it for 15K if I'm not mistaken, though it did need some work done. Any of those years and models are HOT. The Mach 1 is one of my favs though

I just sold my 69' Mustang a year ago. I would do a 67 fastback with modern parts like brakes, wheels and engine mods. Get away from Stock and make it fun to drive. I was dreaming about these Mustangs until I owned one and realized how bad they handle. It was like driving a boat on land. You know what, fix the suspension and put sway bars in it for sure.

GNN60GT500,
First- your Shelby 500 is wild! I'd have to say, my guy will probably not be able to obtain a 'true' Shelby, as they are so rare (unrestored). He could create a Shelby clone from whatever year I chose, like your '66...but to me... if it wasn't a real model, it wouldn't be the same.... hard to explain. Yours' look incredible though.

As a guy with REAL experience with these vintage 'stangs, do you agree that the '69 and '70's were "boats" and not as desirable as the 67-68's?

Finally, I traded my modified '04 G35 6MT for my current GS. I couldn't stand the lack of fit/finish details... don' get me wrong, it was a blast to drive, for about 5 minutes, then I just wished I was in a Lexus...

Yes, I've been hearing this over and over from other Mustang owners about the '69-70's being a little bloated. My guy actually has a '67 fastback waiting for restoration and he has offered the following additions:
Engine:

(Ford Motor Sports) 347 Stroker 5.0 Sportsman block
Z aluminum heads 10 to 1 comp.
Roller cam & rockers
560 lift cam
450 hp 400lb torque
MSD ignition system
Aluminum motor sports valve covers
Aluminum intake
high torque mini starter
Holley 670cfm Carberator
MSD 130 amp alternator
Canton 7qt oil pan
MARCH Pulley System
BBK ceramic headers
Dual exhaust 2 1/2" flow master mufflers
4 core Aluminum radiator
maybe Fuel injection as an option or a Super Charged (Shelby Paxton)

(There are Numerous available Engine packages such as a Big Block FE 390/427/428 or 429/460 + any and All stroker engines)

Transmission:

T 5 World Class 5 Speed Manual
(Manual transmissions can come with Hydraulic, cable or original clutch linkages.)

Rear End Differential/Suspension:

(Standard) Ford 9 inch with Posi
ring Gear Ratio ( 325-411)
Heavy Duty 31 spline Moser axles
Steel drive shaft
KYB Grab a Track Shocks
HD Leaf Springs
Stabilizer Bar
Subframe Connectors (welded)

SUSPENSION: FRONT

(Standard) Rod and Custom Kit #RC107
tubular A arms coil over spring shocks
power rack-n-pinion steering
Flaming River Tilt Column
Handles up to 1000 HP (Horse power)

(This system requires the shock towers to be removed.Which not only gives you More room in the engine compartment, but It makes the car handle like a Dream from it's ReEngineered design.)

Brake system:

(standard) All wheel Power Disc Brakes
Dual Master cylinder w/booster
All stainless steel brake lines

Fuel System:

(Standard) Fuel Tank
110 GPh High Performance Fuel pump
Aluminum fuel line
Pressure Regulator

I think I'm leaning towards this end, a 'stock' looking 67 or 68 fastback but completely modernized and beefed up with an intense performance package.

I probably would have a different opinion of older Mustangs had I found a 67' but I am looking for a 91-97' NSX. It is a little newer but it is classic none-the-less. They are great looking cars and a 10 on coolness factor for sure. The old cars just need some work done to make them a little eaiser to drive by today's standards.

Classic Mustangs are always cool. I have a 1973 Convertible. Good for cruising, but my SC300 is better for all around driving fun.
