Well, if a Mustang has no originality, then what other car DOES? There is no other car on the road that looks quite like the current-generation Mustang, even if it is more or less a retro design from the mid/late 60's. It is one of the few cars in today's world with really unique looks.......so many others all come from the same mold of humpback-whale roofs and aero/jellybean headlights, fenders, glass, and body panels.

The "fishtailing" you describe is due, at least to some extent, to the rather unsophisticated rear suspension and live rear axle, but Ford still uses that setup on the Mustang GT for a reason..........and not just cost-cutting. Ford knows that a lot of Mustang buyers, particularly with the V8 versions, like to do burnouts. Those burnouts, and the high torque involved at low speeds, place enormous stresses on the rear differential, rear axle assembly, wheel bearings, and tires. Live axles generally hold up better under this kind of stress than an IRS, although Ford uses an IRS on the Shelby Mustang, which has even more torque, for better handling. But the Shelby Mustangs are not as liberal with the warranty as regular Mustangs and GT's, and one version of the Shelby Super Snake, with 725 HP, carries no warranty at all.......you buy at your own risk. Other, less-powerful versions, do have at least some things covered.

And as for a new Camaro...............keep your shirt on, it's coming. So is a new Dodge Challenger.

The GTO is a great car, (for a muscle car that is), but it simply lacks any styling whatsoever. It looks just like another saturn or cavalier. I'd take a Mustang over the GTO for that reason alone.

It doesn't look any worse than the original ones did 40 years ago (I know....I grew up with them), and with the exception of the bright-orange 1970-71 Judge models with the yellow decal flames on the side, the styling of those original GTO's was EXACTLY what this one is......a bread-and-butter, mid-sized, RWD sedan with a couple of hood scoops.

not big on domestics but ive been told the mustang is kind of an uncomfortable car to be in. It does fishtail + suspension may not be up to par but honestly it realllyyy wont be a big deal. Maybe after driving a Lexus u may feel a bigger change with cars. But its fast, decent engine, and not that bad looking.

I've never driven in a Mustang but I can tell you the aftermarket is there. Have you ever looked in a Summit or Jeg's catalog? Pages and pages of parts...

But you are asking about gas mileage so I'm guessin you are not looking to mod it. If that's the case, there are other plenty more other gas efficient cars.

Sorry but I have to say the Pontiac GTO (Holden) was hideous looking other than the front and new hood. Thats a major reason why it didn;t sell and they discontinued it. Terrible idea to bring the Holden car to the US and rebadge it. the GTO name deserved much much better than that car.

I agree with you. I love the design of original Goat/Tempest. Would of been great if Pontiac went retro. But you gotta love the powertrain/drivetrain of the current GTO.

Our buddy should also take a look at the 05 Caddy CTS-V which is in the same ball park dollar wise. Some 04's had the wheel hop issue, not sure about the 05's. The CTS-V is a hella of a drive! I would look into one if you truly crave modern American muscle.

I like the new mustangs, preferably the saleen.
I wouldn't mind renting one for a month, just not long term.

Still, how is the styling, market-wise, any different than 40 years ago? (see my post above).
Forty years ago the GTO, style-wise, was simply a bread-and-butter Pontiac Tempest/LeMans with twin hood scoops. Today, it is a bread-and-butter Holden Monaro with twin hood scoops. What's the difference? I fail to see the logic.

The Goat faithful want a retro design. Ford has gone retro with the current Mustang, Dodge with the upcoming Challenger, Chevy with the upcoming Camaro. Hopefully, Pontiac will get it right next time around.
