And since Hawaii is always left out of these types of maps, we are at $3.35 for Premium and $3.15 for regular. Pretty much the tops in the nation according to the map like aways.

All it really shows is how much states TAX gasoline.

Not always. Take CA, for instance. There, the high prices are more than just taxes. You have the dictates of CARB (California Air Resources Board) requiring special gas blends and pollution requirements even in excess of what EPA itself requires.....so, because the oil companies have to do special blends like that, which cost more to produce, for a limited market, naturally, they are going to cost a little more. Then, of course, as you point out, you have the CA taxes added as well.

nah CLK, around new york regular prices are around 2.70-90 and premium prices are up in the 3.40-50s in some areas.

Another factor is the shipment costs of gasoline to particular areas. The farther or less efficient the delivery is, the more it will cost usually.

California however, has it's reasons for expensive gas as mmarshall pointed out.

Guy's, just got back from the Bahama's and the cost of Regular gas is nearly $5.00 dollars, (US) per gallon!

Where I live it is around $4 CDN / Gallon for regular. Premium probably $4.10-$4.20 CDN / Gallon.
