The WRX STI 2.0 motor makes over 300hp...
So is this article saying in Japan there will only be a Toyota model and the rest of the world gets only a Subaru model? Or are they saying that Japan will get a Toyota only model and the rest of the world gets both a Toyota and Subaru model.

The article definitely IS wrong. For one thing, the article contradicts official statements made by Toyota *in the US* that a Toyota version of this sports car would be offered in the future.

Thank god! I've never really had a preference for Subaru exteriors. Also, Toyota badly needs sports cars!! I'm still rather confused about their future plans for a line-up. Is this going to be one vehicle with multiple drivetrains and trimlines? Because they have also stated we are going to get a small cheap rwd car a la AE86 Corolla.

The "small cheap RWD" car WILL be this car. The base price is estimated to be in the low-to-mid 20K range. The Subaru version and Toyota version are both said to have the same or similar mechanicals. The Subaru version *may* be AWD instead of RWD, but likely both will be RWD. The Subaru version is supposed to have a different interior and exterior than the Toyota version.
The article is also incorrect in terms of who's developing what. Toyota is actually the one who will develop the rear end of the car as Subaru does not have the resources or expertise to develop a rear end that will meet both company's cost and quality standards. Subaru is said to be mostly working on the chassis and supplying the engine and possibly transmissions.
As for a Supra or Celica successor, a production version of the FT-HS hybrid sports car concept is rumoured to be the replacement. As it stands, insiders are saying that the Toyota brand would have a 2 car sports car assault on the market, with the FT-HS at the high end and this jointly developed car with Subaru at the lower end of the market.

Delay
Toyota Pushes RWD Coupe Back to 2012
According to Japan’s Nikkei newspaper, the upcoming Subaru/Toyota rear-wheel-drive sports car has been delayed to 2012. Nikkei did not say where it got the information but said that production was to start at the end of 2011 and that Toyota has decided to postpone it until 2012.
“We’re discussing with Fuji Heavy the timing for the start of production and other details,” Hideaki Homma, a Toyota spokesman, said when contacted by Bloomberg. He declined to give further details on the talks.
The Subaru/Toyota rear-wheel-drive sports car will be powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder boxer engine that makes 200-hp. A Subaru version of the car will come to markets first and will be priced under $20,000. The Toyota version of the car will follow at a later date.
