Good point.
Recently however, a Scion spokesperson said that they were not releasing the iQ right away so that they could give the tC more limelight. The 2011 tC has been sold for a few months so far, introducing a new coupe within the same brand might pose a threat to the aforementioned strategy.

I correct myself by saying Toyota has no coupes. They have the Yaris 3 door.

Hey Mike (1SICKLEX) you said we needed more coupes right?

I count 5:
Lexus IS-C
Toyota Yaris 3 door
Scion iQ
Scion tC
and now Toyota/Scion FT-86/S

It makes sense to make it Scion really... and if you think Scions are not cool enough, they probably dont want you buying FT-S anyway! Remember that coupes are not profitable, and toyota gains nothing with some 50 yr old fart buying it ;-).

they dont want someone trading their highly profitable lexus for non profitable FT-S... they would probably want to gain new, younger customers who previously didnt consider toyota brand, and could then in few years buy that IS-F they craved :-).

plus, it would help Scion dealers to get some sales and move some cars.

Coupes are not profitable only because they don't sell in volume. I'm sure they're not selling each vehicle at a loss as long as they plan and make their target sales.

That is a Porsche killing coupe lineup Good overall analysis dude.

If Toyota decides to turn Scion into the true sporty entry level brand with the new FT leading the charge I won't mind. But to my eyes Scion's image is not something that appeals to me, especially with recent struggles. I assume since Scion are experts in customization that Toyota is thinking that is what people want/will do with the next FT.

I wonder what Toyota dealerships think? They have no sporty product and haven't had any for what a decade now? The sportiest thing is the Camry SE?

What also worries me is if this is a Scion then I just can't see a new Supra coming.

i would guess that toyota dealers would think - great that we got scion nameplate!

not sure why do you think that dealers car about cars like FT-S? Low volume, low margin... I think dealers are MUCH more interested in new Rav4 and new Camry, both coming within 12 months or so. Now thats their $$$$ right there.

Was it really necessary to make the styling changes they did? The FT-86 concept was sublime. Perfect. Is that super tacky vent necessary? And the huge front wheel arches? Why did they have to change the side surfacing? The original side surfacing was far cleaner and it just looked sportier. And the rear... Well I like the new rear as much as the old rear so I can't really say much there. And the front, despite being way longer (I recognize the need for that) looks better too, imo. The car doesn't look bad, but it doesnt' look as good as the original, and for no real good reason either. The new side makes the greenhouse look dumpy and not as modern as the first concept. So much potential...

But if I could change just one thing... please please please get rid of that awful vent, Toyota. This car looks pretty much production ready but, hell, SO DID THE FIRST CONCEPT

Exclamation EPIC Toyota FT-86 II Concept Revealed Photos from Geneva

Been following FT86club since yesterday's sneak peeks.

They posted up fully revealed pics of the FT-86 II and it's epic! For once in a long time I'm thinking I may be a Toyota owner again

Looks good. Like the little body kit on it. Not too much, the tail lights look like the headlights! That's a neat little touch. Liking the fact they're clear as well. The wheels are definite keepers also. The vent is the new thing. I don't see what the complaints about it are. The wheel arches look fine too. I think you need to look at the other photos too. It looks good to me.
