Default A Pleasant Surprise

On Friday, I came home from college via the train back to Washington DC. I was really glad to see my parents and be home for the weekend. But I'll skip to the point. The biggest surprise that greeted me at the station.................was the fact that my parents had traded in the Civic for a CPO 2006 BMW 325i sedan!

That's right, a 2nd BMW in the family!

The run down: '06 325i
TiAg, Black lthr w/dark wood
Automatic gearbox
Sport packet
Premium
Cold Weather
Active Steering
Comfort Access
Rear PDC
Sunshades
Xenons
Logic7 Premium Sound

Yeah, its quite loaded up with options, with the original MSRP totalling north of $43k.

The mod bug bit me already, and I've already got plans on some tweaks to make it even better. For starters, I already disabled the headlamp washers so they don't spray when the headlamps are on (I'll turn it back on for the winter).

I didn't have much time with it over the weekend, but on the drive back to campus, it was comfortable, quiet, and fairly economical (30 miles to the gallon). I've gotten used to most of the functions already, but I'm still not used to the car, yet. It'll be a long wait until I can go home and try it out some more (Maybe take advantage of that sport package )

God I want those seats. They're great support for your thighs. Darn 2nd Gen seats are made for short short short people.

I'm back on college grounds . There's 120 miles seperating me from my home and the cars.

Nice. That's unusually heavily loaded for a 325. They rarely pass the 40k mark on the dealer stickers - or at least the 07+ 328i that replaced the 325 seems to rarely clear that mark.

Heck you can get a 335i for a 40k sticker without any options. Though not for the 06 model year of course...

What's the performance difference between the 325 and 328 anyway?

There is a +15hp and lb/ft difference between the '06 325i and '07 328i sedans, along with the more blinged out sport steering wheel. I remember the base price increase was $1500 MSRP between the two years, so IMO those who bought the 06 325i got lucky.

Our 325i was a BMW FS company car, hence the low miles, high option content, and the fact it was never titled to anyone. It was 99% likely an ordered vehicle, not one on the dealer lot. Plus, my parents got a fantastic deal: $15k trade in for the Civic (we bought it for $18k), only 8k miles CPO, and a negotiated price of $31,200. Even I was astonished at how low we got it!

I know. But mom refuses to learn a manual. When I ask her to consider learning, she's always like "Why should I have to move my hands and feet all the time?". Whatever, it won't be "my" car.
