This has already been discussed... the new CTS is BIGGER than the GS, easily explaining a mere 175lbs.

You aren't taking into account the standard features the GS has over the CTS. Sunroof, leather seating, power telescoping steering, heated/ventilated front seats, power passenger seat, 10 speaker audio, knee airbag, rear passenger torso airbags, wood veneer, foglamps...

The new CTS at 3800lb also has a lot more sound deadening and high quality materials. That probably weighs it down much more than a few options that are missing from the base model. All cars are heavier these days...the IS350 is a PIG compared to the last gen IS300 yet its about the same size. Lets look at it this way, the CTS at 3800 lbs isn't nearly as bad as the G37 at 3800lbs

The only thing I can think of that they have in common is the LS2 V8 (which is also found in several other GM vehicles). I think possibly the transmissions were fairly similar as well, but GM pretty much uses the same few automatic and manual transmissions in all of their RWD vehicles.

the 335i sedan 3605 lbs. The IS350 in reality weighs less than its competition

But should the CTS be compared to those cars or cars in which it is of a similar size to? Is weight per price really a worthwhile discussion or is weight per size at least a little more significant?
