Default Would you have bought it?

Guys,

So last night I was at a local car auction. One of the cars that went through was a 99 Ford Expedition, Eddie Bauer, 4x4, leather, excellent condition. It ran through "green-light" which means if it has any major problems it can be returned within 24 hours. Down-side is that it had 180k on it. I was considering buying it to flip.

It ended up selling for $3300.

I have been kicking myself ever since for not buying it.

Would you have bought it?

Jonny

180k miles?!?

I wouldn't have done it. Maintenance costs would be killer...

Woudn't touch it. I know two people who have had one, and another one (my neighbor) who has one and absolutely horrible maintenance issues. My neighbor keeps telling me, "but it looks so big and strong, how could it have all of these problems"...oh well.

Guys,

As I mentioned above

So maintenance costs wouldn't matter to me. Regardless, it is in the past. Now if the opportunity comes up again

Yeah man, get your license, do you know Vegas has the largest car auction? Last time I saw a 04 LS430 Moderm Lux was sold for 22K, and 02 745i for 23K!
and dealers all over the contury buy truck loads of cars each time. Maybe you should check it out.

Hey J,

My bro sold one with similar miles that was not Eddie Bauer Edition but it had a 3rd row seat for 4500.

I would have picked it up. OK is a good place to sell 4X4's. Here you can get a 4X4 in the DFW area for cheep, Take it to weatheford or the some place like that (less then 50 miles away) and flip it for a nice price. The 4X4 market is better the farther north you go. NC wholesalers that I have talked to like Texas and southern cars/trucks.

We have discussed auction buying here on CAR CHAT numerous times. It is probably the ultimate in car-buying risk, for a number of reasons.
