Like I have taken my 1990 LS400 to 146mph. I would like to know what year and what models they first started putting speed limiters (I think they're called governor chips or something) on the cars so that you can't go over a certain speed limit.
Speed is important to me . I'm thinking of getting either a GS400/GS430 or a 1998-2000 SC400 and modifying it for a racetrack just outside Los Angeles where I live. However I'm not sure how I would overcome a speed limiter in the car's system.
Someone recommended I build the engine and put headers and stuff. I'm not sure how much power hp or speed that would add though. Twin turbo charging or supercharging would probably be the last item I would add.
So for all the Toyota/Lexus car modders out there, I want your help!
I would greatly appreciate your knowledge!
Yes, the LS 460 has an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/h; European models have a 250 km/h top speed. If not for the electronic limits the LS 460 would be capable of a significantly higher speed--likely greater than any previous LS.

I bet it would, with 380hp 4.6L v8 I'm sure it would go very faster. 170 or 180 perhaps? More? I can't even imagine the momentum a heavy car going that faster would create. Do you think that it could keep up with a Bentley that goes 200mph?
I just checked up on the Lexus webpage about their future concept vehicles.
The LS-F, GS-F, and LF-A look absolutely marvelous. I wonder what kind of power they will have under the hood.

Weight is not the issue when going 150+. The issue is 1. Does your engine have enough power to make more speed
2. Does your car have outstanding aerodynamics
3. Will your gearing allow for those speeds.
Basically wind is your biggest enemy going 150 plus. You are trying to push your car through the wind. Thus you can't have big spoilers and drag. You can't have a low redline if you have 5 speeds BUT with an 8 speed auto, you may just be able to hit 180. The LS has one of the lowest drags of any car, I think a cd of .25 or .26.
Then you have to be concerning with "lift" and hope the LS is designed so the air leaving from under the car won't make the car flip.
