Question What Radar Detector should I get?

First of all please do not turn this into a V1 vs the rest Based on the research I've done V1 and the Passport 8500 X50 seem to be the top two. Can anyone who is familiar with these units please chime in. mmarshall before you jump in and tell me to obey the speed limit and not go more than 10mph I won't do it

Looks to me like the V1 is the cream of the crop. I've been reluctant to buy one, but the local police are getting agressive on a few roads I travel. I'm not the maniac on the road, but a friend just got a lame azz ticket for going 55 in a 45 and he was simply keeping with the flow.

Do they make anything completely stealth? I'm a zero clutter person and would like to avoid any cables hanging in the car.

Edit: Looks like I'd use V1's concealed display.

To go completely stealth, you'll need to go custom. I know nothing about these guys, but they were the first to come up in google for "bmw rear view mirror v1" and will give you an idea of what can be done.

I've used a V1 since '99 and the unit has saved me from tickets countless times.

Another advantage w/ the V1 is that the unit is upgradable. I can send in my unit to V1 and get a brand new unit for ~$190.

Another vote for V1 from me, but I'm not experienced with the Passport at all... so, I would say I'm biased.

Who says I am going to do that? I don't always nail the limit myself...but I drive with common sense. Besides, that's an issue that has already been talked to death....and you are old enough to make your own decisions.

There is a lasar/radar jammer that goes on the front lic plate, you will have a wire leading into the grill thou. Most of my friends have this but i am kinda reluctant to get it since i'll have to take it to a shop, i just dont trust the monkeys in shops with my car... my...car...my...precious...

That's unusual. Usually in a 45-MPH zone you don't get nailed unless you are doung close to 60. But your friend could have had oversize tires on the car...that will often make the speedometer read slow if it is not corrected with a chip.

Get THIS. A neighbor of mine said that a cop have him a warning for doing the SPEED LIMIT....55. According to his story, the cop said that with everybody else on the D.C. Beltway doing 75 or so, 55 was a clear hazard. Go figure....I'd like to see that one hold up in court if he got a ticket.

The majority of the boards were I have been doing my research agree, V1.

A handful of recommendations for the Escort 9500i w/GPS that allows you to "map" hotspots as well as areas that always give a false.

well, just my thinking, if you go by that area often enough, you know what's false and what's not anyway. i wouldn't mind that extra beep from v1. the more important issue is most of my friends who did side by side testing between passport and v1 told me that the passport simply didn't pick up the signal. that's more serious i think

I had the same question about Passport 8500 x50 vs. V1 vs. BEL Vector RX65, and radartest.com rates the passport and BEL above V1 on more than 1 test! What is that all about?? Ive always wanted to get a V1 but after I started researching and reading stuff online it seems to all side w/ Passport 8500 and 9500 as being greater than V1. Heres the link to the radartest page, http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=9090
