Horrible, horrible accident. Thankfully it seems that Kubica is fine and only suffered a broken leg I believe. It could have been much, much worse. Yet another testament to F1 safety; Kubica's BMW was completely shredded ... all that remained was the safety cell with Kubica inside and he survived with no serious injuries.
This was quite a surprising race, with Ralf Schumacher actually being fast during the race and finishing 8th.
I've read some reports that say he was doing 170 MPH. Current news reports make it sound like his leg may not even be broken. Just a concussion and a sprained ankle. Amazing! I had a pit in my stomach when I saw the crash so this is fantastic news!
Also, apparently Anthony Davidson creamed one of the beavers that Ralph just missed on Saturday.
Hope he's okay, mustve hit the wall at about 80-100mph
MUCH faster than that... they do about 80 when they are following the Safety Car. As was said... If I recall correctly, he was traveling at full tilt when that happened. That's a nasty accident to just come out of it with a broken leg... thank goodness for carbon fiber...
the angle that he hit that wall was scary...truly made my stomach fall like on that dark day at Imola when there were a lot of tragedies. Hats off the Hans Device as it surely help his neck during that horrific crash.
Update: according to FIA officials, the impact occured at 175 mph!
Furthermore, BMW has confirmed that Kubica in fact has no broken bones, and will be leaving the hospital today. It's uncertain though if he will race at Indy.
