This happens when you're not near a terrestrial repeater. You go under a bridge or a tree, or a really thick cloud passes overhead, and you get a dropout. A few of my employees have plug and play Sirius units and have complained of the same problem. XM has (many) more repeaters than Sirius, but the same thing happens when I'm out of the range of them.

I have an 05 LS430. When I purchased it in 05 the dealer said I could not have Sirius, but 5 months latter I read about a new piece of gear called sirius connect The equipment changes an XM radio to a Sirius radio. It works well and looks oem. It cost $500. The antenna is on the front windshield and is approx. 4 inch and triangular. I was told the conversion kit was in the trunk, but I can not find it. It works as designed. It did not affect the nav system. I hope this helps.

Sirius connect requires the radio to be Sirius-ready in order to function. But all current and many recent Toyota/Lexus headunits are both Sirius and XM compatible.
