These guys seemed to love the new C-class a lot. Saw a pack of them driving around Philly 2 months back undergoing some testing. They look pretty darn good in person.
I've been saying that this is going to be a hit for Mercedes since it first came out and there were naysayers all over the place panning it. This car has a certain design charm about it that, if it doesn't charm you at first, will grow on you hard. Just look at a white one, and you'll see too.
I think the new C-class will be successful, and I find the styling split choice between the luxury and sporty models to be quite interesting.
The Fifth Gear video gave me an added appreciation for the engineering done on the vehicle, seems Mercedes is returning towards their roots there. Like the rear air flow, the speed-sensitive lights, wipers wash/10th cycle, etc.
However, I'm not sold on the interior. The exterior is ok to me, not necessarily improved over the last model which I liked. But the inside--the technology is cool, but I think pop-up screens are so yesterday, and the center console layout is too utilitarian, and other parts too retro.
But that's a matter of personal taste, and most buyers will overlook that as after all, it's a Mercedes. And like others said, it will do pretty well for Mercedes in all likelihood, but not necessarily beat out the competition. If not for the stylistic issues and possibly the handling, I would probably pick it over a 3-series. That's if the IS, TL, and other models were not in consideration.
take this with a grain or block of salt, but i was told that before bonuses were being paid to the production line for quantity of MB produced. the result was really crappy worksmanship and quality issues. The new guy steps in and says no more, we will give you bonus based on quality scores and supposedly it helped A LOT. I've had my E350 for 2 weeks now and so far so good, the ride is dreamy but not too soft with the sport suspension. So we'll see how this ride lasts
I am really impressed after watching that video. They really did do some painstaking engineering. Someone posted an article a while back also mentioning how they're doing ridiculously extensive testing on this car. They tested dozens of prototypes for an average of 500,000 km each, as well as doing electronics testing in Japan. This may be the benz to change things around!

if they fix the electronics i'm going to buy one for my GF...i love how they're taking quality seriously...too bad it took them about 8 years...
looks to be a big improvement over the current one, not a fan of the styling tho, doesnt look sporty especially how they shaped the front grille, its too blunt
