Faymester - you drove an auto convertible - probably the slowest (and heaviest) version. A 6 spd non-convertible would probably be and feel quite a bit quicker.

But the car has always been a heavy one.

A convertible auto one probably feels about as quick/slow as an SC430 which does not feel fast.

well, now im kinda a little confused becase i was so sure i wanted the 350z!

there are 2 lists
list 1 - IS300 replacement - im looking @ things like used m3, used slk350

list 2 - fun car to throw around, addition to IS300 - things like 300zx, late 90s camero, c5

buuttt im not sure how relevant that is to y the 350z was unimpessive

and while i agree that auto-convertible is definately going to b the slowest version of the 350z, i dont expect the standard-coupe to be phenominally better ... as i said b4, ill give it a go, but im not holding my breath

If 13.35s in 1/4 stock is still unimpressive, your IS300 must be one hell of a car. BTW, the list of replacement cars above can't do 13.35 stock either, except for 1 or 2.

ok, it wasnt just one chip [i was @ lexus one day, handed them my visa and said 'upgrade everything u can']
... things upgraded definately include (but are not limited to)
i - ecu
ii - maf
iii - all limiters completely removed (ie. rev limiter)
iv - that thingy that makes sure absolutely all your gas is burned so theres no waste (yea i kno i sound highly educated rite here, but hey, what do i need to kno exactly what its called for? lexus knows that kinda stuff for me)

but i would like to point out that: this thread isnt about my IS hp, it actually isnt even about my IS ... its about why the 350z is not impressive

but what im talking about the FEELING of the 350z [note: the initial post where i talk about the heavy FEELING and the unresponcive FEELING]

if im shopping for a replacement car, then replacement car is to perform BETTER than IS and be FASTER than IS and MORE FUN than IS ... if i like the IS overall why would i get something else?

and just for the record: newr ... have you driven the 350z?

and now ... perhaps a return to topic?

I want to test a 350Z now. Actually, what am I saying, there's really no reason for me to test a 350Z since my car does everything the 350Z does better.

I do want to test an Evo though. I wouldn't buy one, but I'm very curious to see how those things handle. And it's different enough from my car that it will be an interesting experience. I also want to test drive an Elise and a Boxster for the same reasons

Wow, upgraded ECU, MAF, and limiters removed. Could you tell me what ECU and MAF did they change it to? Those seems really special coming from the dealer.

btw I've driven an auto 350Z hardtop and an auto 350Z convertible. Even with the same transmission, the hardtop does feel faster. I didn't have a chance to take it to any corners though.

I would buy one if I'm looking for a nice sports coupe around 30k. It's probably the best all-around choice compared to other cars in this price range, such as Mustang GT, RX8, and others. But I would also probably just shell out a few thousand more for a STi or EVO, considering they provide even more performance, and are practical too.

And I'm also a Supra guy, so I would probably pick up a used 97 MKIV rather than a new 350Z.

maybe the 350Z is fast but to us when driving in person with the tiptronic, it was slow and unimpressive, im sure S2000 would score better on a track but 350Z is prob more streetable with its low end torque
Actually the 350z kills the s2k on the track.

300zx isn't a car to handle well. It is very very heavy. It doesn't handle no where near the 350z does and its now officially slower stock with the new HR engine in the 350z.
