Default Lamborghini Alar official pics

Lamborghini Alar official pics
Posted Mar 14th 2007 12:02PM

When we first saw the initial rendering of Joan Ferci's Lamborghini Alar(4th pic ^^), a Diablo-based special that's somehow allowed to retain the Lamborghini nameplate, we knew it'd be pretty ugly. Now, Argentina Auto Blog, the site that brought us the original rendering, has ponied up what are reportedly the first official shots of the car, and it's just about what you'd expect.

Looking like the bastard child of a Pontiac Banshee cross-bred with leftover elements from H.R. Giger's original Alien designs, the Alar is, by all appearances, a waking nightmare on four wheels. The hammerhead shark-like nose is particularly weird-looking. Ironically, there are people who go out of their way to build kit cars that look like real Diablos. Here you have a case where perfectly good Diablos will be sacrificed in order to make them look like wacky kit cars. The mind reels.

Ugh...Lamborghini has had a hard sharp edge to their styling...this looks like a Hot Wheels fantasy car.

Looks like the designer let his 10-year old boy do his job on this toy.

Drawings are one thing, I wonder how much of this will ever show up "in steel" (aluminum, CF, whatever). Most of these early renderings will appear quite different once the product has to be manufactured and provisions have to be made for an engine, driver (complete with arms, legs, head and the ability to get same into the cockpit), suspension, and all of the little fiddly bits that stand between an artist's conception and physical reality. The folks at Mattel don't have those problems.

I agree completely. Plus ... I don't think it looks any more outrageous than the lambo concepts from 20 years ago.
