Talking Audi R8 Arrives Fall '07

The Audi Website has just announced the new R8 will be here this fall.. Looks awesome..!!!

Goto: http://www.audiusa.com then click on "microsite"

Brief Specs:

Engine: 4.2 V8 - 420 HP
Torque: 317 ft/lbs @4500-6000
Drivetrain: Sport-Bias Quattro AWD
Transmission: 6-sp maunal or 6-sp R-Tronic

0-62 mph : 4.6 secs
Top speed: 187

I'm really digging this car! I wonder how much since theres no price shown?

......I'm guessing about $100K

This car is awsome. I think the price was a little higher than $100K though. Maybe $120K?

I think it would be so exciting to do something like that. What do you have to do to participate?

I think this car provides a serious 'respect' upgrade for Audi, much like the NSX did for Acura, so long ago.

This car has been tested by C&D and MT magazine and did 0-60 in 4.0s and 4.1s respectivly and 1/4 mile 12.6s@113mph.

It's going ot be quicker than the standard 911S or C4S. At least the current 911 that has 355hp and 275-TQ both figures the Rb beats by 65hp and 42-TQ.

The key is, the 911S is a $90K to $100K car and the R8 is not. The R8 reportedly is going to sell for $110K to $130K which is more in line with the 911 TT and GT3.

The R8 tested against the 911S holds its own and then some, but so far I haven't seen it tested against either the turbo or the GT3. And by all rights it should be slower than those two for similar money. But will be much better in drivability (street driving) than the GT3.

The R8 is expensive (more so than the 911) for a number of reasons. its more aluminum and uses a lot of Lambo bits as well as nicer materials than the Porsche. Also the Audi is selling a far less number than the 911 which sells more then 30K units per year.

I think on the rarity factor it should be compared against the Aston Vantage which also costs $120K. The AM does not perform as well as the R8.

I think more than a few will cross-shop the 911 TT v R8 and maybe the Aston.
