pro-journalist thoughts on the new Tundra

What am I missing? I'm not missing anything. If you don't believe me, ask the guys who buy this truck, year after year. Any way you look at it, Pearl, F-150 guys are a loyal (and almost fanatical) lot. The almost 800,000 F-150 sales each year are due to a lot more than price and fleet sales alone. This truck, like it or not, has become an American institution....as has also the Chevy Silverado.
Now.....does it DESERVE to be an American institution? Whatever your feelings, yes or no, that, of course, is a whole other arguement, and one perhaps not suited for this thread, which originally was for the Tundra.

No doubt there are those that are loyal. Tundra owners are also very loyal. I myself will never buy another Ford product. Some would like Ford to bring back the Escort. Camry owners love their cars ,it goes on and on. But to ignore price and fleet sales in the overall equation is a mistake. Price does sell and fleet sales are SUBSTANTIAL in Ford/GM sales though they are trying to pull back as the margin is much lower.

True....or at least partly true. I am not disagreeing with you. There is indeed a difference in build quality, but the main difference is more in refinement than overall build quality. The Tundra's drivetrain is much smoother and quieter than either the F-150 or Silverado, but the Tundra's interior materials, IMO, could use some improvement. The Silverado, especially this year, has a major improvement in the dash quality and materials, which now easily outclasses the Tundra's.

At least I did not notice any shims to align the fender as in the previous gen Silverado just to make things fit.

My Fusion experience coupled with every Ford I have owned has left with me a very sour taste in my mouth and the usual Ford babble goes on.
Now, for Mazda, what part of your Miata has some real Ford influence in it?
But regardless, I get it, you dislike Ford products.

Wrong. I do prefer the layout of the Silverado but again, gaps in the body and the quality of plastic is far inferior to the Tundra. What are comparing? Like model for like model? Did you drive the Limited?

However, I'll say it again.. Chevy struck GOLD with that front end. Okay back on topic.

I have looked at the new Tundra but have not actually test-driven it.....it is on my review list. Since you specifically mentioned the Limited, that is the model I'll probably end up reviewing.

F150 has been dropping in sales for a while now...13.4% so far this year, and they were down last year as well.
You guys think market doesnt change, it sure does... if it continues like this, F150 will NOT be market leader in 2008.

Due to the fact that Ford is trying to reduce it's fleet business no doubt.
Look forward to your review. Drive a Limited version;huge difference and set those HVAC controls while at a standstill as they are waaaay over there. My biggest and only gripe on the truck.

The F-Series was outsold by the Silverado in February. It may even lose it's sales crown this year.
As for that video, some silly statements are made there. I'm not even an expert when it comes to frames or truck parts, but I can raise plenty of questions on his "critique" of the Tundra's frame.

And yes, it's quite possible the F-150 won't be the sales leader THIS year, let alone next year. It's in its last year of the current generation and of course there's serious new competition with the Silverado and Tundra.
Ford has launched the next gen. of this bigger Super Duty models recently (F-250, F-350, F-450, etc.) and they're awesome in every regard and have NO serious competition. I expect the new F-150 to have significant upgrades also, and be class leading again.
