A lot of interesting results here. Shocking that the Accord received a sales increase, and yet the Civic saw an almost equally large decrease. The excuse that Civic demand is outstripping supply unfortunately doesn't fly here. Civic sales have been dropping in North America for months now. Simply put, the car has not caught on with consumers as much as Honda hoped. I wonder if there were any deals on the Accord for February?

Nissan/Infiniti sales remained virtually flat, despite a whole bunch of new models. The Sentra dropped in sales; not good for a brand-new redesigned model.

Despite being redesigned, Sebring sales continue to drop. E Class and C Class sales remain pretty good, but that's a huge drop for S Class sales. That has got to hurt. There is also the matter of sharply decreased February sales in Germany. February doesn't seem to be a good month for Mercedes.

Hyundai sales are quite sad really. Except for the Accent, Entourage and Santa Fe, all other Hyundai models are down in sales, including the Sonata.

Camry and Corolla sales continue to climb consistently every month. That's a huge increase for Prius sales, certainly silences the critics that demand for the Prius is dropping.

The LS (again) outsold the S Class. IS sales were also great this month. A bit perplexed by Tundra sales: lower than last February. Too early to judge though, since only the first month of sales. CrewMax doesn't come out until this month. April will be the first full month of Tundra sales, where all configurations will be available.

Default BMW Group Reports Increase in February

BMW Brand Sales increase 15.2 Percent Due to New Products; All-New MINI on
the Market Since February 17

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The BMW Group (BMW and
MINI brands combined) reported February sales of 24,642 vehicles, an
increase of 11.9 percent over the 22,018 vehicles sold in the same month of
2006. Year-to- date, BMW Group sales increased 5.0 percent, to 46,453
vehicles versus the 44,236 sold in the first two months of 2006.

BMW Brand Sales
BMW reported sales of 22,274 automobiles and Sports Activity Vehicles
(SAV), up 15.2 percent compared to the 19,328 vehicles reported in February
2006. Year-to-date, BMW reported sales of 42,035 vehicles compared to the
38,602 reported in the same period a year ago, an increase of 8.9 percent.

BMW Automobile Sales
BMW's monthly automobile sales increased 12.2 percent for the month, at
17,342 versus 15,463 in February 2006. This is due, in part, to the strong
reception of the new 3 Series Coupe and the new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged
inline six-cylinder engines available in all variants of the 3 Series. For
the first two months combined, BMW automobile sales increased 6.3 percent
to 32,871 versus 30,918 reported in the same period last year.

BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
February sales of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles were up 27.6 percent, to
4,932 vehicles over the 3,865 reported in the same month a year ago, due to
strong sales of both the X3 and the new X5. Year-to-date, BMW SAV sales
increased to 9,164 vehicles from 7,684 in 2006, up 19.3 percent.

Certified Pre-Owned
BMW's Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales decreased 10.3 percent in
February -- following a record February in 2006 -- to 5,706 vehicles over
the 6,364 reported in February 2006. Year-to-date, CPO sales are down to
11,170 vehicles over the 12,125 reported in the same period in 2006 for a
decrease of 7.9 percent.

MINI Brand
MINI Automobiles
MINI USA reported February sales of 2,368, down 12.0 percent compared
to the 2,690 sold in February 2006. MINI USA also reported sales of 4,418
for the first two months of 2006, a decrease of 21.6 percent over the 5,634
sold in the same period a year ago. The sales reflect the lower inventory
associated with the model changeover. With the all-new MINI Cooper and MINI
Cooper S introduction on February 17th, sales are expected to increase in
March.

I'm sure the 0% financing had nothing to do with the Prius sales

I'd also be curious if Corolla sales are hot because Toyota is selling more to rental car fleets and the domestics are pulling back. Plus as a rental car fleet owner I would be THRILLED to have a Corolla to rent and then sell at a great price vs something like the Cobalt I was just in (30K and it was falling apart - can't think it would be worth much in that condition).

Alas, I'm sure the LS stole some sales from the S class - but remember the LS is a much newer car and does have a lower base price/SWB version. I'm still amazed that MB is selling 2K plus a month of a $90K car.

Rumor has it Toyota is taking its time with the Tundra ramp up - they want that baby to be perfect.

The deals on the Prius certainly help, but I doubt they were entirely the cause for the increase. Also it must be noted that this is the first time any deals or incentives have been officially added to the Prius by Toyota. Not bad for a 4 year old model.

Well Civic sales are dropping, and Corolla sales keep rising. Maybe a fleet increase is occuring, but I will also bet some potential Civic buyers are going for a Corolla instead. Besides, Cobalt and Sentra sales are dropping too.

Mercedes shouldn't have any trouble selling the S Class ... after all, the S Class is the model that encompasses the Mercedes brand, and the S Class has decades of heritage and reputation.

Also, the average selling price for the new LS is quite a bit more than the old LS430.

I too have a feeling Toyota is slowly ramping up Tundra volume, and is making quality the top priority, rather than volume. It will be interesting though to see if they meet or exceed their goal of 200,000 Tundra sales for 2007.

I'd love to know what Toyota's fleet sale numbers are. The Domestics are cutting their fleet sales in a big way and someone has to pick up the slack. I've been seeing a lot of Toyotas at rental places.

Who's to say it's not Hyundai or Nissan taking up fleet sales? Toyota has never been big on fleet sales.

They are plenty big on fleet sales - over 10% for the Camry. However to be fair, on my recent trip to Orlando I saw Altima rentals EVERYWHERE (not scientific on that one)

Also, I would argue (as would most rags) that the Civic is a superior to the Corolla. The Corolla however is a lot less expensive and is in plentyful supply -something we can't say about the Civic.

You may now begin the argument now about how Honda has the capacity and is witholding models like the Fit now....

Over 10% fleet was for the old Camry model. I haven't seen figures for the new model, but would love to. So far, I haven't seen any new model fleet Camrys on the roads yet.

The European Civic is a different model than what we have, so it shouldn't be affecting US supply. Also Civic sales are strong in Canada, but even so only a small volume of Civics are sold in Canada compared to the US. If demand really was so high in the US for Civics, Honda long ago would have shifted production from some lower demand models to the Civic. After all, Honda's plants are very flexible.

The only plausible explanation is that in fact, consumer demand for the new Civic is not as high as Honda thought it would be.

Fit sales are quite low, and I think part of the problem is that the Fit's price is just too high.

As for Ford and GM, big drop for the F-Series, and huge increase for GM's new trucks. Excluding the new trucks, GM's sales don't look too good. In fact, the trucks are the reason for the overall increase in sales. Ford sales simply look bad across the board.
