Default BMW Problems - NO REVERSE?!

sorry, not trying to stir it up (too much) - but even if Lexus did this I would never buy a Lexus again - what's the appeal of a B'mer if this kind of stuff happens...

I didn't catch that.. is this for their new stuff or older stuff or all models?

I always find it funny how BMW owners allow a certain tolerance of problems with their vehicles. I guess its the *Ultimate* attitude, however, die hard Bimmer fans will need more than this to turn another cheek.

Just like us Lexus fans, we are denial that the IS-F will be able to keep up with the M3 (well in a straight line!). :P

The fact that it lists the costs exceeding what was it....4,000 dollars.... indicates these complaints are on out of warranty vehicles, so older vehicles.

So...how about ..."what if your transmission blew up?" Like on the ES? Does this mean you would'nt ever buy a Lexus again? You can play both sides of this game bud.

Mav has a point------no they do not stand behind their product, go review the Canadian owner thread on ES forum to see where a guy has been left stuck in a car with a hosed up transmission by Lexus, I was as well and others have reported the same.

I thought IS was just playing around with his post about not buying one if....

Bob I hope this doesn't sound as harsh as it comes off...

But do you even enjoy your ES? I just associate your forum name with complete negativity with the ES line.

Maybe that negativity stems from bad experiences....just a guess...

I don't blame the car for the issues it has nor do I think any of many others who discuss issues blame the car itself. It is the frustration of having them in a brand new car and no remedy offered that is not pleasant at all to me and others.

Take just the transmission and set aside wind noise or engine knocking that owners report; It slips but there is no permanent remedy for it, that would frustrate anyone who had spent more or less 38,000 dollars for a brand new car that acts like a used one or needs repairs as one far older would otherwise.

right, and of course valves that need aligment, because "lexus tech who was trained in japan heard it and thought it needs aligment"

:-)

thats not really true... There are 3 possible scenarios, when your car is out of warranty:
1. Common issue and extended warranty (only for major issues like transmission or engine problems).
2. Not common but expensive repair, Toyota will cover up to 50% of cost, even if after warranty, depending on cost and circumstances
3. Known or unknown problem that is considered wear and tear of the vehicle not covered.

Toyota will also cover 50% of dealer offered discount to the customer for unusual repairs.

Those dont happen that often but they sure do happen. We had several cases where we split the cost of repairs for xenons, air suspension on LC, and few others.

Difference in customer support from Toyota and from other major brand we work with is night and day.

Actually it was not reported on documents as alignment, it was recorded as valve lash, as explained to me this occurs when the valve clearance is not set right.

What is your opinion of why a brand new engine would knock so loudly you hear it in the car since you seem not to agree with Lexus Service manager and shop tech foreman's diagnosis?

Well as pointed out, this is the first I've ever heard of it. That said, BMW auto transmissions now have a "lifetime fill" and are rumored to only be good for about 100K. I don't buy into this lifetime fill crap and think 100K is about 50K too low for a trans to last. Rumor has it their manuals are good for 200K+

most manufacturers have lifetime oil in the transmissions as much as I know... all new transmissions are designed that way...

I would rather think that the problem is that due to increased competition, manufacturers have to put out new products that are designed in very short time and hence have issues.

I dont think having an issue is problem itself. How you deal with the issue is important.
