I'm with you on that, especially on one of my favorite cars, although I wouldn't necessarily call it a pig snout. The grille you mention is somewhat Alfa-Romeo-like, and is meant to accentuate, like Saab, Subaru's experience with aircraft. It simulates a fuselage cross-section with two wings.
I wouldn't even call this redesign a "face-lift" per se......it is very minor at best. The front end is exactly the same as the 2006 except for the number of bars in the grille and the size of the foglights.
If you look at this new grille closely you will notice that it also simulates aircraft wings, but much more subtly and discretely than the so-called ''pig snout". Notice how the two "wings" slope upward gently from the Subaru emblem in the middle. In aircraft design, that up-slope of the wings is called "dihedral" and is done to promote stability in level flight and turns.
