When will the next modding boom hit CL?
Heads will roll

oh, theres also a lack of originality when it comes to modding.
how many "What should I do to my car" threads do you see per day? usually the same people respond...with the same ideas.
next thing you know, EVERYONES car looks the same

We are, to a certain extent, limited by the availability of parts (even though there are more now than before), time, and funds. Not everyone has the resource to do custom work, which is where a lot (but not all) the originality happens. I do think that this "lack of originality" is contributing to the lull of which I speak. There used to be a mix or "original" modders and "follower" modders. We now have more of the latter.

I don't think learning from others is a bad thing. Not everyone is looking to be 100% original. Most are just trying to stand out from the hoards of stock cars out in the public. We see the similarities on CL but the cars are pretty spread out in the world. Even here in CA (both north and south), I've seen my fair share of modded Lexus (among the many many stock versions) and there was not an exact duplicate.

Only a few nuts can do it and do it day and night. Some of the best compliments I got were AFTER I wrecked the 400, people thought I was going to drop off Clublexus.
Some of us have a lot of passion with modding and Lexus and Clublexus and sometimes, that passion loses its fire. Sometimes it can be reignited, sometimes it goes away. Like a relationship.

I for one will always love cars and will always have a cool car as I have in the past 23 years, but I will not go through what I went through with the GS4 modding. My next car will have everything I want from factory thus the only thing I will do is put gas in it. 2007 plus will be an interesting year for Lexus and I look forward to buying the car that best suits me.
I think we are just the "old O.G guard" and we laid the road down correctly and now the new members have to follow and do the right thing.
And IMO, they are.
Great job everyone!

After I got the SC300 to the stage it's at, I considered engine mods to get the power. Instead I got the G35 with factory power and it requires very little else. A slight drop and wheels and you're pretty much there. Now I'm thinking of getting rid of it and buy a 2GS4. If I do it will get only a mild drop and wheels.
I don't think I will ever again pour 15K into car like I did the SC. It's not because I'm getting old cars are getting better. Manufacturers sell them with lowered stances and sportier styling and plenty of power. No need for 450 hp when 300 does the job. Even sound systems just need upgrading instead of complete replacement.
I also agree that priorites do change after a while. My mind is on making money so much I'm consumed by it. Not really consumed but I want my family to be very well taken care of.
I will always put wheels on any car I drive...but not much more than that.
I haven't been to any meets lately. Mostly it's just standing around talking about the cars. The last one I went to I broight 2 remote control cars. I thought someone would be interested and want to play. Only some girl asked to play. Everyone else looked at me like I was crazy. I'd rather have meets where there is fun and activities. But we just stand around staring at cars. That I am losing interest in.
So yeah, things are different.
Life is all about change. When things stay the same, there's something wrong. Don't worry, the modding craze will return. More than that, general excitement will return too. Cl has so much info and pics, the kids will see it and want to follow the geezers...because we knew how to do it.

Don't know what Atlanta's like now (I moved), but my overall impression nationwide is that the 2IS is where it's at. The 1IS had the 'racer' type interior and the 2IS is more refined but also much more capable, now with AWD, 3 engines (including diesel in Europe), hot 3.5, etc.
The 3GS *is* in reality a 'logical' extension of the 2GS, and also with optional AWD, hybrid, V6, V8 drivetrains (impressive) but Lexus definitely has the performance angle focused on the 2IS and the IS-F is proof positive of that. It will be interesting to see if Lexus does an GS-F.

bit and I agree, the 2IS is the spiritual successor to the 2GS.

I haven't been following what's going on with 2IS mods, but I bet there's a lot happening. Think I'm gonna hang more often in the 2IS forum here.

The two most exciting things happening in Lexus land are the 2IS and the new LS460.
The LS600h is going to create a REAL buzz when it happens. It could well be the new status symbol to have, even over cars like Maybach. It has the presence, the technology, the size, and the quietest ride possible. Can't wait. Also, expect LS limos!

And that's all I'll say.
