After three weeks of furious online voting and speculation, South Africa's three most personality-injected new car models have been outted in Wheels24's 2006 "Alternative Car of the Year" online poll.
At the finish line, the pert Peugeot 207 was named "gayest" car, the buff Audi RS4 strutted in as "straightest" and the scrumptious derriere of the Alfa Romeo Brera kicked butt for the "rear of the year" title.
The candidates for the three categories were selected from new vehicles launched in 2006. This campaign is to become an annual Wheels24 event.
The Alternative Car of the Year campaign, conducted in partnership with Road Angel Navigator, SA's premier in-car global positioning system (GPS), recorded over 16 000 votes during the period.
The winners of the four Road Angel GPS systems will be named shortly.

1. Peugeot 207: 7 155
2. BMW 3 Series Coupe: 3 378
3. Jaguar XK: 2 571
4. Honda Civic Hatch: 1 776
5. Alfa Romeo 159: 1 293
Straight car votes
1. Audi RS4: 9 824
2. Toyota Fortuner: 2 629
3. Dodge Caliber: 1 808
4. VW Jetta: 979
4. Lexus IS250: 936
Sexiest rear-end votes:
1. Alfa Brera: 6 608
2. BMW Z4 Coupe: 5 722
3. Opel Astra GTC: 2 270
4. Renault Clio: 1 071
5. Nissan Tiida: 505

I brought my Audi in for the free 15k mile service today. They were out of A6 and Q7 loaners so they stuck me in a brand new Jetta for the day.
I have to say I felt pretty gay driving that car. It's very feminine... That list is messed up.

The whole idea of "Gay", " Lesbian," "Feminine", " Straight ", " and " "Masculine" vehicles is nonsense to begin with. This whole concept is based on images and stereotypes which have little or no basis in real life.
VW is a good example. Their products are often referred to, by uneducated people, as Chick and Gay cars, especially the Beetles and Cabrios, but in fact they sell to a good cross-section of the public...not just to certain groups. Same with the Mazda Miata....another so-called "Chick" car that in fact sells to many males as well. Same with minivans. They are often derided, again by the uneducated and ignorant, as "soccer-mom" vehicles, when, in fact, they are driven by many males as well.....they are the best vehicles on the market for many families.
