Extremely biased kid
Now, I am a Honda/Toyota Lexus/ Acura fanatic. I am bias towards these cars too. but this kid at my school is saying that its PROVEN that Toyota is the best car company in the world, makes the best cars, and is the best car company of all time. I think there is no way to prove one car company is better than the other, and there really is no best car company out there. I want to prove him wrong so I came here and posted in the actual Lexus/toyota forums so I can show him that even the owners of these cars know that its not proven that toyota is the best in the world everyway possible.
Who else agrees with me that you really can't say one car company is better than the other?
P.S. He says hes going to pick up an SC400 engine and throw it in his 87 corolla because you can find SC engines for like 250 bucks CDN and hes seen it done in a magazine!

Your friend is right
LOL
Its difficult to measure cars because what attributes do you compare these companies upon?
Quality? performance? annual profits? customer satisfaction (ultimately probably the best)?

Um, perhaps they are the best when it comes to making huge profits and grabbing market share in very lucrative areas such as the U.S. market...they are on the way to overtaking GM as the #1 car manufacturer in the world, and their profits/worth of the company is more than their competitors combined...
However, 'best' cars can be very subjective. When it comes to quality/reliability, Lexus cars are typically the 'best.' But when it comes to other areas, such as styling, overall appeal, and the elephant in the room, performance, Toyota can rank anywhere in the pack practically, though usually not the very top or bottom.
I think you can say to the extent that Toyota is a better company at making money, at producing vehicles that attract a loyal, large following...and probably it is the best in a number of these areas (the Toyota way of manufacturing in particular)...on the other areas it is up for debate.

"Better", "best" in terms of what?
Cars are like clothes in many ways, some fit/suit some and not others. The cars that is "better" is one that only the driver-owner can appreciate. Though the masses will find cars that they like, this may be interpreted as acceptable to a wider audience.
Personally, I've I prefer Toyota followed by Nissan. Honda builds nice car though not to my driving preference.

I agree too
, but that doesn't mean I would pick their cars over their competitors under any circumstances.
In fact, there's only a limited # of Toyota's/Lexus I would consider.
With what is available from Toyota right now, the Lexus LS460L is the only car I want & nothing else, I would look elsewhere for anything other than a large luxury sedan.
If I were still in the market for an economy car, I would pick the Mazda3 & Mazda6 over the corolla & camry for example . . .

Ahhhhh haha! That "extreemly biased kid" reminds me of myself when I was in high school. How we used to have those heated discusions about Toyota VS the rest of the world (BTW: I would always win). Ninous... I hate to break it to ya, but he's right! DAYMN RIGHT!
Jokes aside, I think every single post in this thread has a truth to it. Toyota isn't perfect in every single way, but overall it IS the best company.
In that sense your friend is right; and a word of advice, if you hate losing and you can't beat'em, join'em!

Toyota and Honda along with their respective luxury groups are the two at the top. I can't say that Toyota/Lexus is perfect everytime, but I also favor them over Honda/Acura in most cases.
Sounds like your friend was smoking something laced with a dash of stupidity.
Haha, yea, he'll be able to get a 4.0 V8 for about 200 bucks if it was a scored block from a front end impact leading to fire with 200000miles on it.
Toyota does have their finances in order like none other, but financial status does mean they are the "proven best," unless he was talking in terms of production and profitability of the quantity. (profitability per unit is something like Porsche's real speciality haha)
Ask him who makes the best streetlegal race car? (If he says "Supra, duh omfg its l337zer!", then promptly smack him upside the head and never talk to him again) If he says however, Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Koenigsigg, McLaren, etc. then say, "wow, so Toyota is (insert one of those highline brands), I'll bet you your bank account on that one. So how can you be right that Toyota is proven the best cars again?"

I'll admit I like Toyota/Lexus but I don't turn a blind eye to other companies. Yes, I dislike Honda/Acura because they cut corners in obvious places. Toyota cuts corners but in places that you normally wouldn't see/touch.
However, would I say Toyota is better than Honda? Probably not. Honda has excellent engines and there's no question about that. Toyota knows how to make stuff look and feel expensive. Honda cars (in Canada) are priced very competitively esp. when compared to Toyota but yet if you're willing to pay extra, Toyota offers features that other Japanese brands don't. We know Honda tune their cars to be engaging to drive, while Toyota tunes it to give you as luxurious a ride as possible (sometimes, at the expensive of handling.... <_<)
Hell, despite the fact Honda is Japan's 3rd largest manufacturer (behind Nissan), I think Toyota and Honda are closer to each other than Nissan is to any one of them.
IOW, it all comes down to personal preference. I probably wouldn't buy a Honda product any time soon but that doesn't mean I don't recognise its strengths.

if I had to pick the #1 car manufacturer it would definately be Toyota. But to answer your question there is no "best". Everyone has a different view on what the best is. Some guys like ****, some guys like ***. Its how the world works.
Yup, no doubt right now toyota is basically number 1. No car company can be proven the best in anything. For instence. Domestic pick ups vs. import/toyota pick ups hmmmmmmmmmmm... I think Dodge, GM, and Ford take the cake on that one.. Super cars, toyota doesnt even have one yet. Although that LFA is going to be crazy. Yes though I would say Toyota is on top of things. I figured now that we are in college, this guy would know more about these things.
If I were to choose between honda and toyota, it would be honda by 0.5%. Just because they have a more sportier look and feel to me.
LOL, his words "yea, those SC's are everywhere, I can easily pick one of forl ike 250 bucks and throw it in the corolla, its going to be a beast" So far ive seen 1 SC since ive moved back to canada and it was a beaten 300.

Definatley! when my uncle was looking to buy a car he was looking at Audi, my bro has experienced the hole in his wallet that his SL500 gave him and his exact words to my uncle were "DON'T buy german, stay away from german" Uncle ended up getting a v6 camry and I4 accord.

But I think Toyota =
