Everything so far points to the LF-A having a V10, as well as a rumoured hybrid version. Don't know how viable a hybrid supercar is, but we'll see. The Japanese GP and Tokyo Auto Show are coming up soon, so we should be getting some juicy info .

You don't need a V10 if the car is kept LIGHT.

The LF-A (LF-1) will have lots of carbon fiber, right? So it should be light!

A V10 may just add unnecessary cost and complexity.

Agreed. Part of what made the NSX a fun performer was the fact that is had
a lightweight V6 engine... this helped packaging and weight distribution.

Frankly, with the exception of F1 cars, I don't care for how V10s sound.
Give me the V8 in the LF-A any day!

BTW, the Audi R8 has a V8... as does the Ferrari 430.
The Porsches have a flat-six.
All of these cars are (arguably) in "supercar" territory.

Yeah outside the Dodge Viper, V-10s sound odd.

Lexus is still a baby, they have TONS of new product recently, things take time, especially a company as conservative as Lexus.

The LF-A (per the admission of Toyota themselves) is supposed to be a spectacle and showcase of Toyota's entry into F1. We're not talking about a Corolla here; this is a supercar so a V10 engine is hardly "unneccesary". Quite the contrary IMO; I feel that the LF-A (being Toyota's first supercar ever and being the flagship for the entire company) should have a totally unique and exclusive engine, which means something other than a V8.

As a showcase of Toyota's F1 participation, the car is supposed to heavily make use of F1 technology, which means a super-light car utilizing a super-light very high revving engine.

A V10 adds additional uniqueness, prestige, and exclusivity that a V8 engine cannot.

It's scary to think they can get any better with engine durability and reliability! But wow, those glowing headers are sexy!

I mean seriously, the engine is the heart of a car. A V8 will just make it another "also-ran". Heck, have any of you heard this motor yet? No V8 (bar a F1 V8) sounds as good as the V10 they are testing right now. It sounds like a demon charging out of the bowels of hell. Anything less than what it is now, and consider me uninterested.

Being the flagship vehicle of the entire company (The LF-A will be above the LS in status) it only makes sense that the car *must* be a showcase of Toyota's F1 participation and a general showcase of Toyota's technological and engineering prowess. Anything less and it won't be taken seriously.
