ES heavy front-end accident
It happened this morning as I was heading to work. I was in the left-thru lane and I needed to make a left turn, which required me to get on the left-turn only lane. The cars were jammed up on that left-turn only lane, and nobody would let me in. I continued on the original lane, and at the intersection I made a bonehead illegal left turn move. At that moment I thought the coast was clear for me to make the turn, and then all of a sudden I see a grey Mustang speeding and coming at me from the opposite direction. It was too late then, and we collided with considerably massive force.
I am OK, just some minor bruises on my arms and right foot which didn't require medical attention. The Mustang lady driver complained of chest pains, was put on a neck brace, and had to be hauled off on a stretcher into an ambulance. Both our airbags deployed which was a good thing. The damages assessed from my view: The front bumper of the Mustang was torn off. Both our front ends are completely crumpled and mangled up as you can see in the pics. My windshield cracked as well, and my HIDs are gone. I am pretty sure my car and the Mustang would have to be totaled
Without doubt I got cited by the officer for making a left turn onto approaching traffic. The fine is only $115.50, believe it or not
4 points will be added to my record if I choose to pay the full fine. The other alternative (which I plan to take) is enroll and complete traffic school online, which means no points will be accounted for, and the fine will be reduced to $104.70.
All in all, I am grateful to be alive and walking from the accident (I would hate to think how my wife would live without me), and I sincerely hope the Mustang driver will recover fine from it. A car can be replaced anytime (hoping my insurance will total my car), but a human being cannot. Florida is notorious for dangerous drivers and driving habits on the road, but I will do my best to be more aware of my surroundings and do not do idiot moves.
Be careful out there,
Doug

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on being able to own up to a bonehead driving decision and execution. I can't say that I've ever heard anyone own up to something that was their own fault, and I've been on one or more automotive discussion sites for over 10 years. Incredible!
Second, I'm glad no one was killed or seriously injured (hopefully).
Finally, a big
to your committment to traffic school and driving more defensively and conscientiously moving forward.
Sure, you make a mistake, but you are DA MAN for owning up to it and committing to do better in the future. WOW.
P.S. - Do you think the ES is DOA or will it be repaired?

Oh man,
I just want to shed a tear for you. All that truely matter is that you and all involved are okay, but I still hate to see a nice car on a truck looking like that. Hope you get things worked out with the law/insurance, and I hope you'll still be part of the ES family.
Good luck.

Good thing you're okay. The damage you see is the car doing its job, be able to take most of the impact force. As long as you've got your health, its really all that matters. Hopefully insurance will total your car and everything will run smoothly onto a new car.

I know all of us are glad you're ok.
There's a possibility your ES isn't totaled. If: a) engine damage isn't worse than it looks (dead radiator/headlights is ok) b) a-pillar and roof look maintained in the pictures, hopefully in real life they are too, c) the body damage is restricted to the front clip: hood, grill, lights, front bumper, fenders, and d) there is minimal suspension damage to the axles/boots, control arms, etc.
Let us know of any updates. Give your family a big hug today!
stay safe.

Glad to hear you are ok but NOT sorry about your car. I'm 19 and I have been in 5 car wreaks(2 of which i was driving)and none of them was the car I was riding in at fault, but the people who were making bonehead moves this were. Its because men making bonehead moves like this, I pay more for insurance. Hopefully for your sake the women doesn't sue your insurance for anything more then medical bills. Nothing against you, just people like you making bonehead moves like that. At least you own up to it.
This is just my opinion.
