Don't get duped by all the hype over the V-1. After hearing alllllllllllllllll the reccomendations at least 3 folks I know either sold it or chunked it for a BEL/Escort product. I have been using BEL & Excort 8500 for at many yrs and it has NEVER failed me! In fact it has saved my a$$ more times than I can count! This coming from a true lead foot in the city driver. I just bought their absolute top o the line detector: RX Pro-65 for my bimmer and as expected... It performs flawlessly! Particulalrly against Ka, the most promonent radar in usage by law enforcement.
Also, I sent in my Escort and Bel for upgrades and their customer service is excellent.

You want hype... Buy V-1.

You want real proection... BEL/Escort!

Yup - I tried a V1 - WAY too annoying in a city. Got a Passport, can turn of X-band entirely - not annoying. No cops except Mayberry use X-band anymore anyway.

I've been driving with a radar detector for 23 years and my current Escort/Passport Solo-2 has the best anti-falsing ever. I don't believe it gives up that much in range either.

i drive back and forth between socal and norcal pretty often, the radar has saved me so many times

Whatever you get, make sure it has POP protection.

Get the V1. It's not hype. My driving record in terms of speeding probably rivals everyone's here combined and I have been scott free since I bought one 2 years ago. I got nailed one time...when I first bought my SL and had just ordered another V1 (which had not arrived yet). I don't buy a V1 because it's quiet...I buy one because I don't want a ticket.

IMHO, the V1 has arrorws, and actually is smaller than the X50 if you measure them. It is only slightly taller. But its ligther, smaller in side in every way except height.

I had the X50, and now the V1. The X50 didn't give much warning before the popo was coming up.

The V1 has been rated the best in all the real non-biased tests.

Some say this is better at that, and this is better for this, but really in the end they all give you enough warning time when used properly to avoid most tickets.

The V1 supposedly has better LIDAR detection, but unless you install a Jammer or Veil or something similar it doesn't matter if you can detect Laser from 5 miles away or 5 feet. They get you right away.

So I decided on the X50 Blue because, to be honest, it looks the best in my car. The V1 is big and ugly, and for me I didn't need those giant red arrows. If I am being hit, I don't care where it is coming from I just know I need to slow down. Escort and Bel are now the same company so I have to believe that the firmware and detection capabilities of the RX65 and the X50 are very close (as is their price), so I decided that the Blue would look better with the colors of the instrument panel in my IS. I am very happy with everything, the detectors capabilities, the slim lines, modern design, and the Blue matches perfectly.

Sorry that was so long for a simple question, but that is just my .02. If you are set between those two, I would get the Bel. I don't live in Cali, so I don't know where to get it hardwired out ther. Good Luck.
