Default Opinions wanted on the 745Li Bimmer

I have a "unique" opportunity to purchase a 2003+ 7 series..Although very tempting it may involve giving up the GS ..Id like to get an opinion on if its worth it and would be a good decision.Financially it nots a problem so that is left out the equation..I have modded the GS to my liking and would basically be starting all over again with the Bimmer and I know it will be more expensive to get the Bimmer the way I want it..Also is there a significant difference between the 745i and 745Li besides the size..I was and still am actually considering a 3rd gen GS to stay in the fam of course All help is appreciated ..Thanx all

The 03 is the old body style I believe I rather the older 5 series than the old 7. The old 7 looks aged to me, and will be a dollar cab in NYC in no time. For the price of an 2003 7 series, you can get the new style 545 used. Seen some in Queens for 32k hmmmmm I might bite

740 is the older body style, 745 is the newer body style. Nice machine, but I would love the 5 over the 7.

There is a good reason why BMW gave every 2002 & 2003 745i/li owner a 6 year 100,000 mile warrenty. The main one being they were tired of buying them back. If you are going to buy the 745 go for the 2004 or 2005, very few issues with those.

Yea, I was about to say... stay away from the first two model years of the new 7... hellllllllaaaa problems.

Otherwise, if you like it... go for it. It's a hate it/love it design, but I think it has a road presence matched by only a few others out there today.

I think the 03 is an early new style (first Bangle butt) - and it's been 'freshened' for, er. '06 I think with nicer front and rear.

But I believe the early new style ones had a number of electrical gremlins.

Car is still really nice although I don't care for the looks. The Li is huge - you need all that space?

Great feedback here and much appreciated..After seing the problems with the 02-03 I will look into the 04 althought my wallet is frowning on that ..I will be getting this from a BMW dealer under the CPO so it will have full warranty .When I speak to my buddy Ill alsk about the 6yr/100,000 warranty also..The good thing is it will prolly be a lease turn in and my buddy is a higher up in BMW so I can choose the "pick of the litter" when they come in..He has a soft spot for GSes also..

Hey man good luck. I'm tempted by the dark side also but I'm not getting rid of the GS.

I agree with the '04 or '05 option rather than the '03....but the I-Drive is just as much of a PITA in all three versions.

Is a 745 mandatory for you, though? IMO there are better cars out there for the kind of money you are going to spend on one, new or used.

Nah..not mandatory. Its just an opportunity that presented itself..As I see now its not a slam dunk for the Bimmer huh?? I will definitely do my homework on this..BTW the 04 isnt that much of an option in my situation as 03 leases are coming back and thats part of my offerings..I guess if I wait another year I can get one although my GS will be a year older also....Decisions decisions..
