Werd...real quick. Maybe it will come back in the future built on a modified new Camaro or Corvette platform and a true GTO look. Now that would be something nice.
I like the gto. I didn't like it's price point. GM customers were accustomed to getting their pushrod grunt at a lower price in the form of the f-bodies.....the firebird and camaro. As a former camaro owner, I was disappointed to see the car discontinued and the gto being the only pony car type, other than the corvette, but at a higher price. I knew it wouldn't last. We'll see the f-bodies back. Probably offering 250-350hp for around 20-25K. That's what buyers of american cars want.
Very, very sad. I like the GTO also. The styling was just too, too bland.
Don't forget the interior. It makes the ChryCos look downright luxurious. Maybe this is why the rumors of the Camaro returning seem to be not only getting a lot less iffy but a lot sooner. Last I heard, they are now talking about 2008.
I don't like to see the car go either but don't forget, guys, like the 2-seater Thunderbird, the GTO was not meant to be in production for more than 3-4 years anyway. Bob Lutz told us that in 2004 when the car was first introduced.

That may be true but around 6 months ago they were talking about making a new gto. There were even renderings of it in the mags. Were they toying with us?

Autoweek magazine ran a picture of a possible GTO replacement....there was a lot of adverse negative reaction to it....it looked like a mid-1980's Pontiac 6000 STE...remember that car? GM probably decided then to pull the plug.
