Working in Law Enforcement, it's been reported that at some dealerships they (service personnel on the take) make copies of the electronic keys when cars come in for service. Or there can be a master key for 1 make or model of vehicles. The chip is sort generic but it's only used by the dealerships or a master locksmith. But it's rare. It's a rfid chip in most keys that speaks to the vehicle computer. Sorta like in the old days when cellphones were on analog signal and someone with a receiver standing on a corner can get your cellphone ID. That's one way I have heard of but never experienced it.

It was caught on his security camera. So i guess he timed it while watching.

8 Seconds, he most likely got a key

That is messed up. That would have to be someone with a spare key, Or the professional thieves with the code grabbers. Aftermarket alarm time guys

it is not as simple as grabing the code. However, if they have your car and your original key (for example car wash, valet parking), then they can make an copy within seconds.

they can also create an copy of your aftermarket alarm key, unless it has extra warning such as Crime Guard alarms which warn you that extra keys have been added...
