Here is a good rule of thumb: "If you can afford the Porsche - then get the Porsche." Along that similar thread it should be stated that if and whenever possible, the 911 is the obvious choice - however - since you are totally looking at the fun to drive aspect - get the Cayman (I think). Better for weekend autocross, faster overall on a racetrack than a 911, and you can get a very stripped down basic Cayman with none of the winky nav/ cell phone/ ham sandwich warmer options and keep the fun per dollar ratio more favorable. mmarshall - Viper's and Vette's?? Nah, Vipers suck. They are fast junk. A Cobra kit car is a more refined unit. Vette's are much better, the best performer for the money - but I'll take a Cayman over a C6 anyday. Unless it's a Z06 C6.... Then I'd have to go with the monster power of the Vette... and even then I'd still want a Porsche too. Please everyone buy lots of Caymans so that in 5 or 6 years I can perhaps pick up a great deal on a used one, preferrably a black one.

I'll echo what many have said - if you can afford the 911, get the 911. On the other hand I certainly don't agree the Cayman is "not a porsche" or is somehow inferior because it's based on the Boxster platform. I know boxsters are the *****es of the Porsche family, but the -S is actually a great sports car. I certainly woulnd't kick it out of bed.

The thing that gets me about the Cayman S is the fact that it can handle like a train, but it gets smoked at the line

Thanks for all the input guys....after alot of thinking and talking with my Dad and Brother...I have decided to just keep the LS for now.

but for sure there will be a Porsche in the near future....if everything goes well and I stop gambling....I will be able to pick up a 997 turbo at the end of the year...
