Toyota Lexus Orders Soar in Japan
NAGOYA October 1, 2005: Japan Today reported that the number of orders for two Lexus models Toyota Motor Corp received in the first month of the luxury brand's domestic debut came to 3.8 times its monthly sales goal, the automaker said Friday.
Total orders for the GS sedan and SC sports car, both of which made a showroom debut Aug 30, stood at 4,600 units as of Wednesday, it said.

Also, I just found out RUSSIA is also a huge emerging market for Lexus.
The New Lexus designs (L-Finesse influenced) will definately redefine the meaning of luxury. It's good that they are truly differentiating themselves from Toyota's designs.
I think that the GS and SC sold well in Japan because of simple, clean, and organized design. Japanese culture is very aesthetic, and Lexus hits the mark with artistic design. People will always praise various automakers for "break-through" design, like Chrysler or Audi, but when it comes to practicality, most consumers want driver-friendly cars with safety, gas efficiency, and comfort, not excessive power and over-dramatic styling. Lexus knows what the public wants...
