Even with gas at $3.00 a gallon, the thought of a BMW 130 makes me go limp......

I hate when luxury brands move down market and cheapen their image. Bimmer 1 series, Cadillac CTS and upcoming "BTS" (a name made up by C&D, I believe), that MB C-hatch thing, etc...

Let the lower level makers get the economy market.

Considering the very few I saw around Europe I'm not sure how well it's selling. Certainly no where near A3 (or MB A class) levels - it's main competition I would guess. In Europe an 130i would be very rare - the whole point of the 1 series is to catch the bottom of the market so the volume would be in the 120i and below market.

Well, this can only help Lexus. Lexus will never lower themselves to the compact class.
Thankfully, that's Toyota's job.

For some reason, after I saw the headlights, "bimmer on caffeine" came to my mind

It's not a bad design. I just wouldn't buy into it. Why buy an econo luxury car when you can go buy a regular econo car for far less?
Needless to say the US is not the market for these. I haven't seen a single A3 on the road.

My sentiments exactly. It loosk to much like a VW Golf and BMW should have learned it's lesson with the 318. Trying to get a grip on this market will be a mistake when there are so many others are alerady dominating it. IT will not fly.
