Yeah, we've discussed a couple times in car chat already.

 

That's not a wheel...that's the TWEEL.....a revolutionary design from Michelin ( as the pictures show ) needing no air pressure. It was shown at the Detroit Auto Show either this past January or January '04...can't recall right off-hand. Even though Michelin's golden reputation has been tarnished a little by the recent F1 fiasco at Indy, the military is still showing a lot of interest in this " Tweel " design for its ability to sustain battle damage and keep on rolling.

 

I'm all for these tweels if they can add some cosmetic sidewalls facing out .

BTW, just to be nitpicky, tire = rubber, wheel = rim > hubcaps.

 

I like the idea not the look. Hopefully they can do something with the sidewall

I was thinking about that when I saw the twheels. First thing I thought was wow, I bet that thing is like running a tire with an absolutely massive sidewall!

Ill have to pass now, but I do hope they keep at it and improve upon it its always exciting to see new technology.

 

No...not necessarily. These are not like normal flexible high sidewalls...they are quite rigid.

 

Wasn't adding the nitpicky part in response to the name tweel, but in response to the thread title...
