Damn...that's some serious speeding or a serious pot hole. Any other info (kind of car, how fast, other damage)?

Yes, that is one of the classic hazards of low-profile tires and aftermarket wheels. They often don't mix well with rough roads and potholes. The lower the tire profile and the rougher the road and deeper the hole, the less room there is for the tire to protect the wheel from damage....although your case there is unusual. The rim is usually damaged before the center of the wheel breaks like that.
We've discussed that issue at length in a number of CL threads.

Good luck with the replacement. I hope insurance will cover it.

Actually you guys are all wrong, this wasnt from a curb. If you have been following the "scandal" with HRE and Kinesis wheels in the Viper league, this came from that thread. If you look, the tire is a racing slick, 295 wide. This was on one of the Vipers (extremely high HP/TQ) that was racing. Stuff like this happens when you push your car and its components to the limiting edge when racing. This wheel apparantley was re-powdercoated or something that weakend the wheel, and over time, the extreme extreme pressures of racing cracked it.

By the way, Kinesis and HRE's are very top notch wheels. You cant bash an entire company for one problem. That's kind of like saying Ferrari's are complete cr@p cars because one of their engines blew up this one time.

I know about all this problem with HRE and Kinesis, but that wheel center cap looks like it says GFG or something like that. HRE and Kinesis both have distinctive center caps.
