Free SUV Gas from Uncle Sam
Can someone explain to me how to claim this? Does it mean people were better off buying say a X5 in 2003 than an RX300 since the Government subsidizes them, I'm a little confused, but if all it takes is a sign on your car to advertise a business that seems like a no brainer for a decade worth of "free" fuel??

This country needs to change its rules with giant SUV's. Giving tax incentives to people buying large gas guzzling SUV's is bad enough but also helping pay for their high gas consumption is outrageous. We need to start classifying Hummers, Expeditions, Excursions, Suburbans, Tahoes, Navigators, Escalades, Pathfinder Armadas, QX56, and large pickup trucks as passenger vehicles which is what they are used for and not light trucks that allows them to get away with poor emissions, poor safety, poor gas mileage, and being too large, heavy, and dangerous. Once they have to adhear to restrictions on weight, size, mpg, and emissions then we will stop seeing Excursions and Suburbans and more sensibly sized vehicles, but GM, Ford, and Chrysler will complain they will go out of business if they can't sell their gigantic behemoths because for some reason alot of morons feel they need to own something that large.

I hear it helps with stress and frustration. As you see below (see sig) I own one of those behemoths so technically that makes me one of your morons. I only ask though that you be a tad more considerate in your expressions.
Thank you.

I guess I happen to fall in to the "moron" category as well because I just purchased my enormous Toyota Sequoia. I tried hauling around my wife, 2 kids and moving all stuff in my house with my SC400 but I figured it would take around 1000 trips. Thanks Udel.

I'm reading John Stossel's excellent book "Give me a break" - you should too.
I apologize if anyone took what I said as an insult and I did not mean to offend any CL members. I was pretty specific by listing the SUV's that I felt were way too big and heavy and they did not include the vehicles that you own. I never mentioned the Sequoia, GX, LX, or Landcruiser because although they are big they are not giants and I do not see that many LX or landcruisers on the road unlike Hummers, Excursions,Escalades, Navigators, and Suburbans. I have recommended to someone to get a Sequoia over a Excursion and Suburban for towing their boat because it was a better built smaller lighter more sensible vehicle that is also ULEV. I have no problem if someone "needs" a large SUV because they frequently haul their boats, trailors, etc or go offroading with alot of supplies and passengers. The problem is many people don't need these vehicles but just want to own the biggest thing on the road. The people I was talking about are the type of people who bought 7700 lb Excursions just because it was the biggest SUV sold and the people who traded their Surburbans in for Excursions because they did not have the biggest SUV on the road anymore. These same people pressured GM to make the Suburban larger then the Excursion and wanted Dodge to make a SUV based on the Ram that was bigger then the Excursion. Most of these people do not need a vehicle the size of an Excursion and just drive it by themselves everyday to work and to run errands often getting single digit gas mileage. It just bothered me that mainly American companies and consumers have taken a tax loophole to flood the market with giant SUV's and many consumers say keep making em bigger and heavier. I just think large SUV's should be classified as passenger vehicles instead of light trucks that allows them to be considered work vehicles and not have to adhere to various safety, weight, emissions, mpg, and size regulations. Sorry if anybody took offence though.
