Default Saab 9-2x= Sales flop

For the month of February 2005, 166 9-2Xs were sold by Saab, bringing the grand total to 366 for the year.

Total sales for all of 2004 totalled a mere 1,788.

For comparison, Saab expected to sell 7,000 per year.

I personally have seen plenty of them in NJ over the weekend and 1 in Philly not to long ago. I've always liked SAAB designs(if rather different, but I dont mind it). I think it looks pretty cool. BUt as usual, wagons dont sell that well. If the Subaru Impreza/WRX wagon doesnt sell all to well, then why would a more expensive SAAB??? Poor GM.

Saab has really nothing to distinguish it from other companies. If people want AWD, they think Subaru, not Saab. If people want safety they think Volvo. Plus the wagon part looks awful

I've test-driven the 9-2X Aero. It has a slightly softer and less hard-edged feel to it than the WRX does with the same powertrain. (it also comes in a 165 HP version...the same as the Impreza RS).
It's a nice alternative to the Impreza if you like the Impreza's drivetrain...as I do....but not its styling or interior. I see no practical reason why it should not sell except for the fact that Saab has not marketed it well and may have priced it a little too high considering the Impreza source.

Now.....maybe if Lance Armstrong puts on a buisness suit and drives it.................

The WRX wagon HAS done well....very well. The reason I don't think the 9-2X has is price-related more than anything else...see my post above.

The Saabaru. I actually like the lines of this car more than the real version.

True, nobody is fool enough to pay a $6k premium for a WRX wagon with leather seats and a Saab logo. Our local dealer had an ad in the paper today that remedies this-$5000 factory cash back on any 9-2X is stock! At that price it's a pretty good deal.

Part of the 9-2X problem has been price and part of it poor marketing.
The 5K rebate, as you point out, addresses the price part.....WRX junkies, take notice.
