Anyone know anything about the new performance division? Supposedly, it's going to take on AMG and M. I'm curious to what anyone's heard. Is it going to be the "GT" lineup or will L-Tuned be back, or something else?

i think this was talked about before...but I really wish there was a lexus performance division for the 2nd gen GS....performance wise....they have no car to compete with m3, m5, e55 amg, c55 amg, s4, etc

I also heard "GT" but that was several months ago. Who knows if and what Lexus will do.

TTE allready does some performance versions of the current toyota's that are sold through the dealernetwork.
It would not be that big of a change for them to do some Lexus' too I think.
They allready showed what they can do with the IS430 showcar and their stuff for the 2nd gen. GS.

L-Tuned was just a TRD USA line. We'll never see that in our lifetime again.

GT series is what's rumored. It would be a step in the right direction for Lexus to pursue this, especially if they're using BMW as a proprietary target.

dunno, imho, ltuned and tte, they might help a bit but they are not close to what amg and m power is to mb and bmw respectively. they are directly under the company, and dedicate to full power performance division.

i hate to say, but tte and ltuned/trd, they are still doing half *** job right now. get a real team together, get some super car out as ONE of the lineup model, and we are talking

Definitely. It's the upper level management politics that kill ideas like this unfortunately.

What exactly does that mean? "Using BMW as a proprietary target"?

After their formula 1 debacle I wouldn't say I know they *are* capable but they certainly *should* be capable.

flipside909: It's more than just upper management politics that have kept them from doing well in that arena. They have spent simply mind boggling $$$$ and have little to show for it.

Toyota got into F1 as a marketing ploy for their eventual launch of a performance division. They made the mistake of thinking this would be a good idea, and that they would run away with win after win due to their bankroll. And it was a big mistake. Toyota has delayed their new supercar and any sort of Lexus performance division because, as it stands now, Toyota's highest-performance attempt to date (their F1 program) is a complete disaster and embarassment.

They should just close their doors, admit they messed up BIG, apologize to fans, and carry on with road cars because it's obvious they can't build world-class race machines.
