...or is the last generation BMW 7 Series a timeless design??? I have a few neighbors that own a 740iL and every time they drive by, the car doesnt look like a car designed so long ago.

Classic!

My father has a '98 740iL (everything loaded except xenons and navigation), and like Stage and the others have said, this ultimate driving machine is one of the most sought-after, timeless designs in the auto market. It's the definition of a luxury flagship sedan with all the creatures and comforts one would expect from it. I had the luxury of driving it on several occasions, and every time I get behind the wheel, it's like I gotta take this wherever I go because it's just that damn good of a vehicle

Here's a pic of my father's 740iL. Even with everything stock, it still looks awesome for a 7-yr old vehicle

Of course it was a nice design............. ...............and continued to be until You-Know-Who finished screwing it up a couple of years ago.

What also kills me is the low stance and fat lipped staggered wheels on some, STOCK

Yeah those are nice cars, I actually thought of getting one before I got the GS. The sad thing is, as frumpy as the new 7 looks, its just that "new" kinda makes the older model look aged.

The main problems with the new ones, even more than the "frumpy" looks you describe, are the idiotic controls inside and the generally shoddy construction. For instance, compare the sheet metal and door solidness on the both the old and new 5 and 7-series. You'll see what I mean.

I havent really evaluated a 745 from that perspective (only took a ride in 1 once), but that is a common complaint about alot of the newer German cars (not as "solid" as before). My dad drove M/Bs in the early to late 80s and man I'll tell ya, opening the door on a M/B coupe was a WORKOUT! LOL

I like how the old 7 and S-Class looked like. Now the LS430 is the best looking luxury sedan in its class.
