Well Jag has promised to be the style king of luxury cars. We'll see. They have no choice. Jag is very overlooked. THey just admitted the S-type was a failure, too much Lincoln LS in it.

I used to love Jag as a kid. Now, they are just an also ran sadly.

Sorry to sidetrack the thread here but was the S-type or X-type based on the LS?

Your gonna just when I tell u this.
THe Jag S-type is Lincoln LS RWD based, which also was shared with the now discontinued, Ford Thunderbird. The Thunderbird and LS interiors are pretty much identical. At least Jag added their J-gate and version of it (still bad).
The Jag X-type, is based on the FWD Ford Mondeo. They sell a FWD Jag overseas . Jag knew it was bad but decicded to only sell us the AWD version of their version of the Ford Mondeo. This car was to push Jag sales to over 200k a year but that never happened. Its a dismal failure, even if it doubled Jag sales. It is a quality nightmare. And it was overpriced, a loaded 3.0 X-type was 46k!
It did have a manual but its one of the worst in the industy. The x-type got pummeled in ever comparison in every magazine, always last or near last. They have lowered the price and tried to increase quality but it was way too late. Notice how not here or any auto forum really mentions this car when we make comparisons.

Another problem was styling. This car was to appeal to younger buyers but looks like a small XJ, which has a very old buyer. In other words, imagine the IS 300 being a mini LS 430! It would have sold really, really bad.

IMO, Jag should have went up market instead of downmarket. That killed the brand. Jag was seen as a legitimate Benz/BMW alternative. Now, its sadly, an also-ran.

Dunno...just doesn't do it for me at all. It's too cute to be taken seriously.

Where is it sold as FWD? I just learned this today when I was reading Automobile. In that piece, an interview with some guy from Jaguar (never looked at his name), he said they'd introduce AWD on more cars and also have a type R for the next X-type. Interestingly, he said the next X-type wouldn't be a "3-box sedan," I think his words were. Whether that means they're just going to stick to wagon form, which seems to be selling well, I don't know. It seems he also indicated there'd be an SUV forthcoming, BTW.

Looks like a cheap version of the DB9.

Diesel would be great. I'd love to see more diesel cars here. It'll be interesting to see if the Japanese hybrids or the German diesels win out.
