Audi needs an SUV, glad to see them bringing one to the market, much as I dislike them.

mmarshall, they're ditching the allroad. I'd imagine this new SUV is to combat the Touareg, XC90, M-class, X5, MDX, 9-7x, etc.
Pretty sure they don't want to combat the Touareg since the Audi is just going to be a faster, spiffier Touareg with a different logo. The goal is to combat all the RXs, X5s, and XCs that seem to be the official cars in my neighborhood.

I'm sure they don't want to, and despite the 5 vs. 7 seats in T-reg vs. Q7, they will end up competing against their VW brethren.

It will be interesting to see what price they set the Q7 at. If it's not too much higher than the Toureg ( i can't imagine it being much higher) you will definitely see Cannibalising of Toureg sales.

It all really depends the car's quality, if it's the usual Audi build then i cant see why people would pay more for another Toureg (without the incentive of a Porsche badge).

I think it looks better than an RX if they just work out that grill a little bit.

allroad is gone after this year. If I can find reference to the fact, I'll post.
The explosive growth of the car-based SUV market in recent years has been due primarily to the fact that unless they're going to do heavy towing, a lot of people just don't want the clumsy handling, stiff ride, poor gas mileage, and high ingress / egress of big truck-based SUV's any more. Smaller, car-based SUV's give a lot of people the economy, all-weather traction and the moderate carrying capacity they want....without driving a 5000-6000 lb. gas-guzzler. (Yes, I know the car-based Touraeg is 5000 lb.-plus).

I will take your word for the All-Road's demise....you are a credible person. However, if you do find a source, do post it, just out of curiosity.

Pike's Peak Concept if anyone's curious.

Still not a fan. The X5 IMO is the best looking small SUV followed closely by the RX330. However, with a feared future in mind as well as Lexus reliability, I'd choose the RX.

The Audi grille is getting way out of hand, and although sometimes it's good to make a statement, too much can be...too...much. Aztek anyone?

Nice pictures, Jim. I agree that the grille has got to go, but this vehicle is a LONG way from the Aztek.
