Help me decide!!!
Ok I just found a great 93 RX7 twin turbo 5 speed red with ONLY 63k miles. I've always had a thing for RX7s (I prefer the looks over a Supra). Now the dillemma is... I can keep only one car. Its between the Rx7 with 63k miles or my beautiful SC300 with 230,000 and it still runs like a champ. It is such a hard decision for me because the SC still runs like new and I have no reason to sell it. So do you think I should keep the SC300 or get the RX7? Also, do you think I'll be able to get $8500 for my car (no problems, new timing belt, spark plugs, all maintenance done, literally only like 3 dings, all mechanical options work, dual cat-back exhaust, probably going to throw in tan Supra seats as well)? I guess the RX7 purchase depends on if I can get $8500 for the SC. But even if I can sell the SC300 for $8500, do you think I should get a RX7 to replace it?
dont know about how much u can get for your sc, but i have always loved the styling of the rx7 also, just dont know about the reliability of the motor, something goes wrong and i wouldnt know to ask to fix it
The RX7 was/is a beautiful car - but if you'll be using the vehicle to commute or will have to rely on it more than occasionally - you may want to stick with the Lexus.
If you have a reliable vehicle to use as a daily driver and just want a car for fun after work or at the track - then definately get the RX7 - it'd be a blast.

IF I RECALL CORRECTLY i remember reading something somewhere saying that the rotary motors in the RX-7's were not reliable when used as commuter cars fro a long commute. dontremember where i read that.
with the way the used car market is, I dont think you could get $8500 for your sc. It would havto be something someone was looking for i guess. Its too bad really, my cars arnt worth anything anymore. I have also heard that the rx-7 twin turbo motor is very high maintainance and somewhat unreliable after 100k miles. I almost had one myself, very fast and beautiful car but personally i dont think you will like it more than the sc. The sc is in my opinion one of the most gorgeous cars ever created.

One of my friends has a 93 RX-7 and although it is a blast to drive, it is HIGH maitenance.
I would strongly advise you against getting one unless your willing to do a lot of self diagnosing and fixing or footing a lot of bills. His motor also had Only 60K miles before he had to replace both turbo's.
Just be careful

This entire weekend I did my research and spent hours and hours reading up on rx7club.com. I love the RX7 but everyone said its like a time bomb about to explode. The RX7 I was going to get was so nice... red exterior with black interior. Beautiful car... just cant have it as a daily driver. I drive alot so I finally concluded I dont want to be stuck on the side of the road during a long trip. I think I'll stick with my good 'ole 230k mile reliable SC. Thanks everyone for your help. I feel really bad about turning that beautiful RX7 away. I guess its back to modding the SC...

FD's are AWESOME! but they are a pain to maintain. even with only 63k miles on it, i'll pretty much guarantee that you'll blow the motor on it at some point around or before 100k. some last only 70k.. some last 120... i have a friend that is a mazda tech that fixes FD's on the side... he's the best in the bay area and he charges 6k a job. we have a running joke that he doesnt even have to sabotage peoples cars, FD's sabotage themselves. when u usually have to change the timing belt for other cars, you'll have to change the engine in an FD. they are great cars to own, but not if you want to daily drive it. its more of a track/pleasure driving only car. and a car that you should expect to see a lot of down time for.
