Yes and yes. As long as there is no Lexus dealer on site w/your Toyota dealer of your choice, they will work on the car.

This is a relevant topic for all Lexus models, not just the ES, so I'm moving this to Car Chat

Toyota dealers in this area do the same service and basic maintanence as Lexus shops for about one-half to two-thirds of the price. They use the same Toyota fluids and filters as Lexus shops do. The only real differences is that Toyota dealers usually don't wash your car like a Lexus shop will, and Toyota shops cannot do warranty work...you MUST use a Lexus shop for that. But, then, warranty work is usually free anyway.
If you can document that all your basic maintenance was done in a Toyota shop, you shouldn't have any problem with a Lexus warranty claim.......with Lexus and Scion being Toyota divisions.

Hell, at my shop, we usually end up working on a lot of Toyotas... i dont know why, there is a Toyota dealer a block from us, but a lot of people bring their cars to us instead.

Hmm... what if the Toyota and Lexus dealer are 1/2 a mile down the road from eachother?

If they're owned by the same company, the Toyota dealer will not take you in.

I'm guessin they'd do your service for you... its more money for them. My parents live 90 miles away from the closest Lex dealer... so brakes, oil, and other things gets done at Toyota.

Ya, Toyota dealerships generally do work on Lexus. But, there is one dealership (Carson Toyota) who refused to change my transmission fluid because it was not a Toyota I talked with the service manager and told him I just want a basic drain/refill and that the Lexus tranny is no different than any Toyota tranny. He told me that his insurance wouldn't allow it. The strange thing is that he said that he said the will install L-Tuned stuff on Lexus though.

Another Toyota dealership (Toyota of Long Beach) kinda scared me away one day. I asked for a tranny drain/refill and to have the differential fluid changed. The service person said that I don't need a differential fluid change because my car doesn't have one since it's front wheel drive (I have a GS). I asked him three time if he is sure about that and he said yes every time. I went to another Toyota dealership who at least knew what they were talking about and got the service I wanted.

So, just find a good Toyota dealership who will do the work, they usually will. They are a lot cheaper and have access to the parts you need.

Sounds like they confused your GS with an ES. Still...they should have been able to do it. The ex-Supra's driveline ( in non-turbo form ) , which they should be familiar with, was essentially the same as the GS300's. Even the GS430, I think, has esentially the same driveline and differential.

Funny thing is... the older ES's (old body style), still had a differential drain. Just cause it was filled with ATF doesnt mean ya cant change it

DAMNIT!!! I dont want to mess it all up. I know how to do timing belt changes, but ive never cracked open the V8... only things ive changed them on are VW's 1.8T, 2.Slow, VR6 and V6. you usually needed an engine hoist becuase the motor mount had to come out...
