MB S55 question?

It could be an S55, from a few years back. They had the normally aspirated V8 pushing 362 horses I believe. The current S55 has the Supercharged version of that motor, hence the "Kompressor" badging on the fenders.
My Aunt just bought an 04 S500 with the Sport package. It looks like an S55 without the AMG badges and Quad tips.
This is what sucks about Mercedes, you can convert any of these models into wannabe AMG variants. You can also change the tail lamps in favor of the current quad-lined ones. Even the C-Class has the big Calipers and drilled rotors. They look like the C32 AMG from a distance, but up close, its just a C230 Compressor.
I personally look at the brakes though. If it looks massive and beefy, most likely it's the real deal. The brake system on the CL55 are huge~!

i believe in the early yrs s55, they had dual single tips, but it's visible from the back. and of course it says v8 kompressor on the sides with different front and rear bumper.
in recent yrs, they change to quad tips in the back (i believe all amg models got quad tips now).
exhaust is probably teh biggest difference. on s430 nd s500, you can't see the tips, it's pointing downward i believe. only on the s55 and s600 you see the tips. on the s600, it's dual single tips.

In 2003 when they change taillights and headlights are the quad tips in the S55-looks mean!!!
If you really want to embarrass the guy, ask to him if you can look under his hood
On any year, any regular S430/S500 EVEN with the sports package, they're aren't any tips.
I saw this POSER with a regular E (320/420???-the very early ones with the black undertrim in the rear bumper) who simply slapped on the E55 badge with the AMG, no body kits, rims or exhaust. Too bad I didn't have my camera at the time so I could share

On one of the pictures you guys sent, the S55 had dual tips on each side. In another picture it had single, while still including the S55 AMG badging. I believe the car I see has single tips, and no Kompressor badging on the side. I will hopefully will see it Monday morning. Maybe I will try to snap a picture of it, while trying not to get caught. I wouldn't want to look like im impressed
One thing I do know is he has an unbelievable girlfriend. She is about 21 and looks like a model. By the way he is late 30s. Maybe she spotted the AMG badging, and that hooked her?I will try getting a picture Monday.

Easy...besides the badging, the quad exhaust, body kit, etc...look at those brakes...they are huge on the S55...I believe the fronts are 6-pot and rears are definitely 4-pot...they will say AMG on them as well. I park next to an S55 at work everyday...beautiful car!

i thought the front is 8 pots and the rear is 4? i could be wrong though. i believe the e55 it is 8 pots front and 4 rear

anyways, your best bet is to check the body kit on the car. Even the S430 sport and the S500 sport options aren't the same as the S55.

The 349hp version would only be a NA V8 @ 5.5L - no supercharger, while the newer ones are supercharged (kompressor) 5.5L V8's...so the old one's should not have a kompressor badge...only an //AMG badge.

KVA is right... before 2003 it is NA and hence does not have badging on the sides. Besides exposed exhaust tips... if his windows are not heavily tinted, look in the front windows at his front seats. The seat backs should have a silverish oval AMG badge stiched into them if it is a real AMG. Also, if the car has chrome trim on the sides around the windows... its a dead give-away poser because AMG's don't have the chrome trim around the windows like normal S-Classes.
