Daimler Chrysler Execs Benz stolen
This must be bad publicity for the Benz folks.
Exec's 1M limo lifted
Daimler Chrysler head Juergen Schrempp is without wheels. His $1 million S600 Mercedes-Benz armored limousine was stolen while it was parked on a street in Stuttgart, Germany.
The limo, which sports a 12-cylinder engine, hasn't yet been found, the police said.
The S600 is the top Mercedes limo.
This one had bullet-proof windows, "finger-thick" steel plates as part of its chassis as well as tires designed to keep it running even when flat.
The car was probably stolen by the "Russian mafia," a German newspaper reported, citing an unidentified investigator.
The theft was confirmed by a spokesman for the German automaker which declined to make available a photo of the car.
The car is also fitted with a broadcasting device to help retrieve the car, which was reported stolen on Oct. 26.
Same story from a different newspaper
November 23, 2004 -- The $1 million Mercedes Benz limo used by the carmaker's own CEO was hailed as bullet-proof and theft-proof — until now.
Bold thieves somehow apparently jimmied through the armor-plated doors and made off with the shiny black S600, despite a load of high-tech devices to foil thieves.
"It's got to be very embarrassing for Mercedes Benz to have all that anti-theft equipment on its boss' car and still it gets stolen," said Rob Painter, one of the nation's top experts on auto theft, and a consultant on the auto-theft movie "Gone In 60 Seconds."
"But the truth is — any car can be stolen."
The limo, owned by CEO Juergen Schrempp, was parked on street in Stuttgart, the German headquarters town for Mercedes Benz and its parent company, DaimlerBenz AG.
I don't know if this is a repost.

Also, I would've thought that the head of DC rides in some highly customized Maybach.

It's amazing that a $1 million car did not have a 24-hour guard, especially a CEO's car. A company as large as D-C certainly can afford a couple more security guards each working an 8-hour shift or riding in the front seat with the chauffeur.
