My 05 4Runner came in
Well my fiance's but whatever.
The damn distributor misentered the order and we ended up with a V6 instead of the new VVT-i i-Force V8. My fiance just didn't want to wait another 2 months so she ended up taking it.
Oh well... it's still nice.

Congragulations on your new 4-Runner.
Now break it in properly for the first 1000 miles or so...
Engine RPM at 4000 or below.
Vary engine speed...no long stretches at constant engine RPM.
No hard or panic stops except in an emergency.
No hard or jackrabit starts.
If it is an AWD/4WD version, (most are) try to use the transfer case a little to break in the components....but
don't use the differential lock or 4WD Low on a dry , paved surface.
Consider an oil and filter change at 1000-1500 miles. I know this is not in the book, but is a good idea with a new engine to get all the shavings and impurities out.
I highly recommend SCRATCH-OUT, a wonderful liquid with a very fine abrasive that will take out all kinds of surface problems in the paint. It will even take out swirls, as long as they are not too deep. I swear by it...it will help keep your new paint just like new. I sometimes give it away as gifts to new-car buyers. Comes in a little yellow bottle.....$3-5 at auto parts shops.
Good Luck.

The company car here is an 03 4Runner V8.
Awesome machine, with no gripes except a HORRIBLE noise at full steering lock. I hope they fixed that on the new ones.
Otherwise it's chock full of lovelies like those mirrors on the back pillars to see what's directly behind the tailgate and the remote rear window.
Oh, and it FLIES. The V8 is a 4.7 and the V6 is a 4.0 (1GR-FE). I don't expect the V6 to be much of a slouch in comparison.
Enjoy! She will love it.

That's a great looking truck! I believe the 4Runner is the best looking midsize SUV out there (along with the GX of course!). Nothing else really comes close in terms of great looks in this price range too.
By the way, the dealer you bought your 4runner should be held responsible for this order mishap. Either they are not being upfront with you or completely oblivious when it comes to the 2005 4Runners (which in sales can be a combination of both).
I want a 4 runner also, and have been eyeing that new V8 with more HP for 2005. Even the Toyota website says the new V8 engine with more horsepower won't be availble until January 2005. Dealers in my area will either take an initial deposit now to get on the list to order of will NOT even take orders for a 2005 V8 version at this time.
Don't get me wrong the V6 is powerful and smooth and a great way to go, however the V8 reviews for the 2004 are just to incredible to resist.
Congrats again on this new purchase of yours! (also get the factory rear spoiler installed to finish off this great look)

That's my favorite truck.
I can understand your disapointment at the ordering issue - but hopefully you got a nice break in price. Even though the V6 doesn't save you a whole lot on gas - anything will likely help as gas prices continue to rise.
Enjoy it!

Very nice!! The new 4-runner looks sweet. I'm not sure if they got a supercharger for the new 4.0L V6 yet, but if they do, you can always supercharge it to get more power!!
My bro has a 99' 4-runner with a trd supercharger and that suv pulls hard!!!
