Default GM Auto Show in Motion

Hey guys, yesterday i mozied on down to GM's Auto Show in Motion here in STL... its one of those test drive event every manufacturer seems to be having. It was a really good time, just thought I'd share some of my feelings with you.

BMW 530i... exterior is personal opinion...interior looks and feels kinda cheap for being 50k+... MB and Lexus i think look far better. It handles very well and is very smooth, but I was surprised at how light the steering was. The car also had extremely poor low end tq. It did wind up decently once the double vanos kicked in thogh.

BMW 325i... unfortunately some idiot was going 15 mph the whole course so i got stuck behind him.. car was lacking power, but it was still ok in that dept. It handles very well as we all know, point the steering wheel and the car goes in that direction. It feels very light on its feet. However, as with the 530i, i was very dissapointed in the light steering. Its nothing like the E36 steering feel. Fun car though overall.

Acura TL... i know some of you aren't a fan of the interior, i personally think its very nice. The materials feel pretty solid for the price range. The car has a lot of power... i spinned the tires off the line and exiting the turns. This is probably the most fun FWD car you can get hands down. It had a bit of understeer, but once again better than most others. Tq. steer was minimal. Transmission failures aside, I think its a great car if you need FWD.

Mercedes C320... this one REALLY surprised me. I think it was gonna be a clumsy luxury car. This car has very good tq. I put it in Sport mode and turned traction off... i was able to go sideways exiting one of the corner. This was actually my favorite car at the show. It felt heavier than the 3-series, but still handled fairly well. The steering was heavier than the BMW's, which I thought was a huge plus. Very responsive brakes. Interior is very nice and mercedes like.

GMC Envoy- piece of trash... top heavy, same interior quality as a cavalier, slow, brakes blow. Stereo is BOSE but i think they slapped the Bose logo on a delco radio head unit.

BMW X5 3.0- a lot more low end grunt than 5.30. Steering was pretty good, braks good, handled excellent for SUV... much better than my RX300. It was quite fun to whip this one... wish they had a 4.4 there.

Pontiac GTO (auto)- i actually gained a lot of respect for it. Very very nice throaty V8 rumble exhaust note. Just gobs and gobs of endless power. It felt very heavy in the cornering and wasn't the most agile in the turns, but it still was actually pretty fun to drive. Interior design is better than most of the GM cars i've been in. The car has 4 place seating like MB offers in their big boys.

Cadillac CTS- surpised at the interior, materials felt pretty solid considering its GM. Nice dash layout and gauges. Good power... 3.6L 255hp.... crappy handling though. After driving this, I knew exactly why they chose not to bring a G35 sedan to the event. At about the same exterior dimension, the G35 woulda been wiping the floor with this car.

new Cadillac STS- on the outside looks very similar to CTS, interior was fairly nice, no sunroof though!!! Very simple looking dash layout. Car had decent northstar power, extremely clumsy handling. It was very unstable when braking though... under full braking the car loses composure.

C6 corvette- very neat looking, interior still feels kinda cheap but the design of it looks much nicer. It has the neat door entry system that the SLR has.. you simply kinda press on this keypad in this notch in the door and it opens. When your inside and want to open the door, you just press this button. I thought i was in the batmobile... never have seen such a long nose before. Excellent power.... really fast as we all know. It handled much better than I thought it would. Through the corners it felt lighter than it actually was. Questionable build qaulity once again, but well performing car.
