No dyno specs yet, but it looks pretty cool
I don't know how well this engine can handle boost... I don't think they built up the internals(maybe I missed that part), so for now this is giving me more of a show car vibe than a go car.
I don't quite see the reasoning here.....why waste time with a Turbonetics blower when TRD already has a dealer-installed supercharger for the tC that carries a full factory warranty?

I am assuming the turbo makes more power than the supercharger. The TRD S/C makes 200hp peak

A lot of people mod their cars to be different from the rest... if everyone has the dealer-installed supercharger, then the originality is lost. Hence, a different way to gain more hp in your tC
Also, as the article states, this was a car provided by Scion itself for SEMA. They gave it to a group of people who had modified an xA and xB before, and requested that they build up a custom tC to give Scion and the tC some press at SEMA. They were given about three weeks to complete the entire project, (including the paint job) and I think it is very cool that they were able to pump this out in 3 weeks time.
Whether or not it performs.... well that's a different topic all together.
turbos typically less parasitic loss than sc, because they dont use up engine power, they use the waste (exhaust) from the engine instead....but more than anything, turbos have large inherent advantageous in tuneability (new inlet/exhaust/compressor housings, boost regulation via controller, etc.)....my brother picked up one (he just got out of college)....great car and bang for the buck!
Thay supercharger from TRD is kinda weak....gives the motor only 40hp more than the regular one. Plus, i don't think that motor can handle too much......it's a CAMRY motor
Same Motor... different displacement, so its not the same motor. This one equates to 1.8L and the Camry 2.4L. diffrent internals, but i tell you what, it no 5sfe. That thing was just about bullet proof. I was up to 10lbs of boost on stock internals in my camry. boy i miss the turbo...
they are gonna sell a ton of these in the states. If I were a teen or 20-something looking for an affordable sporty new ride, this would be at the top of my list. So tired of seeing Cavaliers and Grand Ams around here.
That first pic of the Turbocharged tC looks like a G35 Coupe with BMW Z4 headlights...and a fat FMIC...lol
Between Supercharger or Turbo.....I dunno....If i were drag racing the car, definite Turbo....but for everyday reliability street driven....the Supercharger....
I have a friend who has a TRD supercharged Tacoma V6, and he drives it 80 miles a day and has had no problems yet(Knock on wood)....
If it indeed does have a 2.4L then it doesnt have a Supercharger. The sc it currently only made for the 1.8L and then the 3.0L. 2.4L is probably in development. and itll probably put out more than just 40 hp.
