Default Infiniti more reliable than Lexus !

This may be old news to some of you, but Consumer Reports listed Infiniti as having the fewest problems with 3 year old and 5 year old vehicles. The long term reliability with Infiniti seems to be slightly better than Lexus as it has fewer reported problems than Lexus. Here is the complete list:

After 3 years of ownership:

1. Infiniti
2. Lexus
3. Toyota
4. Acura
5. Honda
6. Subaru
7. Mazda
8. Mitsubishi
9. Nissan

After 5 years of ownership:

1. Infiniti
2. Lexus
3. Acura
4. Toyota
5. Nissan
6. Subaru
7. Honda
8. Mazda
9. BMW
10. Saturn

I've always viewed Infiniti as one of the most underrated luxury brands in the auto market, but it's nice to see Infiniti being at the top of the list. No question that Lexus is up there too, but there may be a few reasons why it is not kept at #1 (for example, recent transmission hestiation problems with the '02+ ES models).

I'd still never buy a Nissan.

msilverIS what's wrong with nissans. they are great cars. i own a g35 and i previously had a maxima. their engines pack a good amount torque compared to a lot of the other jap cars out there. they are reliable and pretty fun to drive..

Hold up!

Let's not forget there is a margin of error in all of these tallies.

Lexus was only 2 problems per 1000 vehicles behind Infiniti. Toyota was just one behind Lexus.

If I remember correctly from the article, Infinity, Lexus, and Toyota were very close....but there was a HUGE gap behind them putting the 3 makes in a class of their own.

Actually, I think the cars are rated by "problems per 100 vehicles" A gap of only 2 is nothing... If i recall long term reliability for a cadillac was the second or third from the worse, god am I glad I got an SC400 instead of an STS last year!

You mean the Cadillac built Opel Omega? (Catera) If I recall, that was the absolute worst car ever made when it came to reliability... 98-01 it was all the way on the bottom of the list for problem free vehicles, which made me slightly sad because I for one thought it was pretty cool looking and offered good perfromance with its 200 hp V6.

Cadillacs and lincolns when compared to lexus or infiniti are just "dime a dozen domestics."

Well, actually there was quite a bit of a difference between Lexus and Infiniti on the 5 year reliablity scale. In any event, here is the list again with the numbers to back it up:

3 year old reliability rank and problems per 100 vehicles:

1. Infiniti 21
2. Lexus 23
3. Toyota 24
4. Acura 28
5. Honda 35
6. Subaru 36
7. Mazda 39
8. Nissan 41
9. Mitsubishi 41
10. Buick 48

5 year old reliability rank and problems per 100 vehicles:

1. Infiniti 24
2. Lexus 32
3. Acura 34
4. Toyota 35
5. Nissan 46
6. Subaru 51
7. Honda 53
8. Mazda 54
9. BMW 60
10. Saturn 62

As you can see, there is quite a large margin between Infiniti and the rest of the pack in long term reliability. While Lexus appears to be as reliable as an Acura or Toyota, it's still not as reliable as an Infiniti.

I love the G35 coupe. If I hadn't found my current SC400 I would have bit the bullet and bought one. I still might get one in the next couple years once they work out any bugs. I'm glad Infiniti stepped up.

I don't understand. Do you mean feel in terms of driving feel? Then I would disagree since the Lexus models I have driven in seem to have road feel just like every other Toyota. Infiniti cars on the other hand seem to have different road feel than Nissan.

If you mean dashboard/interior "feel" - yep, Nissan has one layout that is now used in almost every car they have and that is getting annoying.
