Default 140 MPH

The thing is that people don't have to do this on public roads. Many tracks and drag strip owners are more than happy to make a few extra bucks by reserving or renting out time to people who want to test the limits of their cars....at their own risk, of course, and perhaps without warranty or insurance coverage.

IMO the speed at impact was well below 100 mph. It is harly possible to have anyone survive in a sideways crash onto a tree. Most who do so at 60 mph do not survive.

A pity nontheless but very much a part of human nature and error making.

This is more than just a pity, human nature, or "error making". There is simply no excuse for this....period. There is no defense for it. Not on a public road...see my earlier comments about renting out time on a race course if one wants to drive like this.
I agree with the earlier poster that the driver probably watched the movie "The Fast and the Furious" and thought it was more than just screen entertainment.

I'd be scared to death if someone was driving like that on the same road i was on. Can you imagine if you were on the opposite side and that evo came at you? those sparco harnesses are nice and all but they were on stock seats(?)......
